I type all my documents in Microsoft Works, Word Processor but when I try to send items via the net, my documents are unreadable. My kids also are having problems with some homework that they try to send. People keep talking about Microsoft Word. Is that what I need instead? I am going out today to see what I can find. Is Microsoft Word 2003 the latest version? Thanks everyone.

Not familiar with MS Works. You could try to save them in RTF (rich text format) and send the files that way. That would make it more readable with other systems.

There are different MS Word products depending on the browser you have. We have Word 2000 at home -- works fine. I think we've got 2003 at work. Be ready for some sticker shock.

We got our MS Professional package (includes PowerPoint, excel, and some other programs) through the college my husband teaches at for $20 (it's an educational "edition"). You might want to try that route if you have any connections with colleges/universities.

Good luck. :badpc:

Microsoft Office 2003 is the latest, but I don't think you need it. You should be able to save your Works documents in Word format. Just choose File/Save As from the menu bar then down the bottom of the window, choose the format you want to save in. I'm positive one of the choices is Word 97/2000 or .doc. This will make it readable in Microsoft Word.

There is a program called OpenOffice. You can get it for free on the internet. It's open source software. It will give you an option to save a document as a Word document. Then, people will be able to open your attachments in Word.
