I don't know if anyone would be able to help me with this, but the drawer for the CD drive on my computer doesn't open. I have had problems with this in the past, but was able to resolve it by restarting the computer, sometimes it would 2 or 3 restarts. When this would happen, the icon for the D drive would be gone from the "My Computer" page. Now, I can't seem to resolve the problem, even after restarting the computer. Does this need to be sent in to be repaired? :confused3 :sad2:

Are you comfortable opening your computer's case? If so, open the case and check the connections of the drive to the computer's power source and motherboard. Those are two different connections. Check them both where they meet the drive and meet the power source and motherboard.

Make sure you disonnect the power cable from the wall before you begin and ground yourself (touch a metal object other than the computer) before you begin.

If the drive still isn't recognized when you turn the computer back on then it needs a trip to the computer doctor or to be replaced. A new drive isn't expensive.

Sounds like you may need a new CD-Rom drive...I agree...open it up and check the connections. If they look ok and you still have issues...a rpl may be in need.

I found this tip on the Budget Board:

"You can manually open it by unfolding a paperclip, and sticking it in the small hole on the front of the CD drawer. Not a fix, but it will get a CD in or out."

I was able to do this and open the drawer.

Thanks for everyone's input.
