This is certainly a good addition :thumbsup2
If this new configuration is successful there are plans to expand this to other Disney resorts. More details will be released in the future regarding expansion of this service.

Any Idea if and when BLT will also get WiFi??

All resorts will need this as WDW moves to the next generation reservation system.

I am not sure about BLT as I did not see it mentioned by name and can only speculate. It is Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort so I am going to guess that its quite possible.

In my opinion, this is a step in the right direction for Disney, Free Wi-Fi has become common and this is really Disney just catching up to everyone else.

Its about time, now they can compete with the Super 8 out on I-Drive. :goodvibes

The WiFi is important and long overdue. The "free" is a bonus. Budget-level motels and such routinely offer free WiFi but higher-end hotels often do not.

In a way, Disney is going in the opposite direction -- keeping it wired and charging for it in the Value hotels (for now) but offering free WiFi at their higher-end accommodations.

What is the until Oct. 24th about? Maybe it won't be free after that?

It says the "wired" internet is available until Oct 24th. I guess they are removing the hard wired access points. :confused3

That doesn't sound like a good idea. Its tough to get a solid wireless signal everywhere and those ports are going to be needed.

2 Things.

1) When couldn't this have been there when i was there in august!?! It killed my phone's data not having wifi

2) Anyone else notice how it is Almost all the deluxe resorts with a few moderates?

Simply put budget level motels could have hundreds of competitors in the same area, so you often do see a lot of other free perks to try and get guests there, wifi, continental breakfast (i.e. costco package of muffins/danish and OJ), amongst other things. Where as a higher end hotel usually doesn't have as much competition from other high end places, sure they indirectly compete with budget hotels, but offering free wifi isn't going to be a game breaker to get people to pay significantly more for a room.

Wasn't too long ago that making a local phone call from your room was a premium price, then free local calls became a standard, much of which was a result of cell phones.

Bottom line its a way for a hotel to make extra revenue, obviously it doesn't cost much for the hotel since these budget motels can afford to give it away for free. However, considering how integral the internet is to our culture, and as mentioned the "next generation dining reservations", it really is a bit tacky for them not to give free internet. Wifi is great, however I'd be content with ANY free internet, even if its a bank of computers in a "recreation" room, simply to get a weather report or park report.

I agree with all that -- was simply pointing out to where Disney is in relation to the market. Most of the non-budget motels I've stayed in that charge for access have free WiFi in the lobby... which is where I usually go to go online when I'm in those places.

We noticed free wifi in the lobby at the Boardwalk hotel when we were there in August. Is this new or did I miss hearing about it? I know there's also free wifi in the Contemporary hotel lobby. Anyone know of any other free wifi (not in guest rooms)?

Does anyone know if this includes DVC Villas? I know DVC members already get free internet, but it was a pain in the butt to have to plug in my Macbook and sit in the corner in order to use the internet in our room (No, I didn't realize I should've brought a wireless router on our trip..)

We'll be staying at BCV if that helps at all. It'd be great to be able to use my iPad2 and not have to bring a wireless router with us.

Yeah Disney is in a separate boat though compared to other hotels, because they essentially have all the hotels on site, and their hotels even the "budget" ones do offer substantial perks over the $30/night no-tell motel right outside the resort grounds. So they can get away with not giving the perk of free wifi (or internet mind you) with the value resorts
