Complimentary room upgrades...

It doesn't happen very often at DVC resorts. If it does, it's more than likely due to an issue with specific rooms. It happens much more often at regular non-DVC resorts. But you should never come out and ask for an upgrade....unless you ask how much an upgrade would cost.

and if it happens, it is usually because they have overbooked the resort or a certain category.

I have been upgraded from a Standard Garden View room to a Tower Room at GF...also upgraded from Standard room to a view of the MK/Water View at the Poly...it was beautiful to be able to see the castle in the distance. No upgrades at the Contemporary or others but we did receive a balloon bouquet for my DD birthday and Parents anniversary at POP and also a bottle of complimentary champagne and chocolates at the GF for my parents anniversary again. I book the Standard view no matter what hotel I stay in and if I get an upgrade it is always a touch of magic...if not, I'm happy anyway.

I was upgraded earlier this year to a king bed room and I agree that most upgrades are unintentional & simply a happy, random by-product of last minute room re-assignments. I didn't ask for the upgrade & also didn't have a particularly friendly or pleasant CM at check-in. I checked-in early and my room wasn't available at that time. When I asked if any room was available, she advised "no, but you're getting a king bed so that's good enough." It was the busy President's Day weekend so I believe they wanted my standard 2 double bed room for a family. The king bed mobility-assist room was unoccupied & so that is what I received. I was happy to get the king bed and the bathroom was larger so a good situation all-round for me.

We had an AMAZING upgrade at the poly in March 2015. Our assigned room was not ready and the front desk cast member offered to call and see if another room was ready. I booked a standard view and we ended up with a theme park, club level room. That was one trip we will not forget!!!

January of last year I booked a Standard room at BWI and when we arrived they had us in a Club room. That worked to their benefit however, as we liked it so much we booked Club Deluxe when we went back in December!

We stayed at BC for one night on our honeymoon and booked a standard room. When we arrived they brought the manager over to congratulate us and he gave us an upgrade. I also got one from a Savannah to an Arusha view at AKL during a longer stay. We never asked for an upgrade or any other requests, and we never knew we got an upgrade to Arusha as we thought it was what we booked(we found out later). We are repeat customers at AKL, and really only stay with them now for our longer trips. I think it's a little bit of pixie dust they give out on occasion.

I would never ask for an upgrade but our very first stay at CR we were upgraded from MK view to Club MK view. We were super happy but figured it was a ploy to lure us to future Club stays:) It didn't work, for us my DH didn't think it made financial sense. We don't drink alcohol and we were using DXDDP. Fast forward 6 annual trips later and we booked Club MK view again this past January. Now that DD is considered an adult we don't bother with the meal plan. Plus no regular MK view rooms were available so we really enjoyed Club level and I'd say we're hooked. We still don't drink but we loved the convenience of a light breakfast each morning (we only had 2 character breakfasts booked) and we had an after fireworks bedtime snack each night. It might not make monetary sense but we're hooked.
