Complimentary room be upgraded

Does anyone have experience with comp rooms from Disney? We had a fairly bad experience a couple of years ago at the Poly and were given two nights to use any time in the future. We haven' t used them because we continue to get great AP rates, but we would like to try to use them this trip. The CM said we are able to add nights. I'm wondering if we want a CL stay for our other five nights of the trip that we will add on, can we pay the difference between the standard to Club level for the first two nights.....so we don't have to change rooms mainly. Thanks to anyone who has experience with this!
