Can I use my Disney Vacation Account to pay for my Cruise down payment through Costco, or do I need something more direct? can I use gift cards?

You should be able to use DVA as it gets entered like a credit card or gift card. Of note, Disney indicates to not give out your DVA info to anyone except for Disney-so you may need to call Disney to pay. Many others here have mentioned using DVA with a Costco reservation, but not sure if I have seen mention of initial deposit payment.

I hope it would work, or perhaps I could make the reservation and transfer it to costco?

yes, that is what i did--made the reservation directly with DCL using my DVA, then quickly transferred to costcotravel.com.

I've heard it said that one should but how exactly do you transfer it?

I think it is easier if you can have Costco make the reservation and put it on a 3 day hold. Then call Disney to apply your Vacation Account funds for the deposit amount.

what @clten recommends works too.

if you do want to transfer, just let DCL know and they will send you a form to fill out, which you then fax in to DCL to make it official.

You can transfer a reservation you made directly with DCL to Costco within 30 days. However, once it reaches about 27 days ...it has to be "rushed" through the Costco system. I know this from recent experience. I recall having to receive a form from Costco, enter some info and scan and email this back to them. There was an issue with them (Costco) receiving it-so it was good that I was paying attention to the process given the short and "rushed" time frame. Costco was very pleasant and helpful. Good luck .

to be honest, I find this intimidating, but not too intimidating to go for the best deals..:scratchin
