Complicated (maybe) ticket question re: rates

We go to Disney every year now. I am thinking of buying 10 day base tickets with no expiration for our upcoming May 06 trip, thinking that we will use 5 days on the ticket this year, and then have 5 days left for when we go in 2007. This will save us about $300 in the long run.

My question is about the trip in 2007. If I already have these tickets, will I be able to purchase a dining plan when I book my resort stay? I think I heard that in order to get the dining plan, you have to purchase hotel AND tickets. Is this true?

This will be of course 2007, so who knows what will be offered then, but under the current rules, you can purchase as little as a 1-day ticket for each member of your party and still get the dining plan.

There is no way to tell what may be offered for 2007 but consider that the only discounts lately have been in packages. So by having tickets you could be in a position to pay "rack" rate for your room. I was considering doing the same thing with the tickets but have decided that it would not be worth it IF I had to pay full price for the room next year. It may be a good idea to also consider an AP if you are going to be at the parks for more than 10 days and can work the dates out to use it for 2 vacations. There are often discounted rooms for AP holders although it is NOT always true!) Anyway this year I decided to get our tickets for just the days we need them. :)

Assuming that the current rules or somewhat similar rules are still in place in 2007, I would definitely buy the tickets. To get the dining added to your reservation you would need to also buy a one day ticket for everyone on your reservation. So, if you use 5 of the days on your 10 day ticket this year, the next year if you again went for 5 days, you would only need to use 4 of the remaining days. Since you say you go every year, you would then have 1 day left over for the third year. By then with the annual price increases on tickets, that one day ticket would be a really good deal.
