COMPLETE- "We're Never Coming Back!...Until October" FEB '14 Princess Half Marathon

Love the Hercules pin! And yes, you have to get a Mickey bar while you are in WDW. :) This past time we also had a cookies and cream Mickey sandwich, which was just as yummy. :)

Those look good too! I am a fan of the cookie part of ice cream sandwiches- it's always so soft and gooey! I'll have to try that next trip!

Finally, we decided we should head to the park, after all, we had FP+ reservations waiting for us, and this was Emily’s first chance to test out the new system! We walked right over to the international gateway (LOVED LOVED LOVED staying within walking distance!) and soon enough, we had traveled halfway across the world to England! Being in World Showcase was a bit of deja-vu, since we had already walked/run through here twice this weekend!

We browsed the shops here for a while, hoping to find a souvenir for our father-anyone else’s Dad super hard to shop for? No such luck, but we stopped for a photo op before moving on to Canada!

Every time I think I might want to try and change my reservation in the fall to WL or AKL you mention something or post something (or someone else does) about BW and I am reminded that I NEED to stay put. It will be perfect for the fall!!

Cait and I already had a lot of photos of ourselves in Epcot so we had fun making MJ jump in on a lot of the pictures, photo booth included!

I love the photo booths! I use to have the phone numbers to them. Such fun to call!

At this point I was also quite tired, and I am much less agreeable to smiling for photos when I’m tired, which is why the photos decline a little in this part of the day…

I can't imagine why you would be tired... ;) I think you look great though!

I was so excited to find that, especially after we got to meet Herc that morning! All the CMs who saw that pin complimented it, and many were quite envious when I told them we met the hero himself on the half marathon course-apparently he is very hard to find!

That is so cool! I love to see the hard to find characters.. I don't need a picture with them... but I really do enjoy seeing them on the course. I would be inclined to get something like a pin to commemorate the sighting. :thumbsup2

Next up, we were on a mission! MJ had never eaten a Mickey bar…..clearly she was missing out! We found a cart in Future World (with the SLOWEST CM EVER (VACATION RUINED :rotfl2: ), and after what felt like forever, I finally had my favorite snack in hand...and in mouth..and in stomach!

I don't believe I have either. :sad2:

I’m not nearly as obsessed with Mickey Bars as Caitlin is. I really just don’t think they taste much different than a standard ice cream bar. However- I wasn’t going to pass up ice cream after a 13 mile run!

I think maybe that is why I have not tried one...or at least don't remember. I know dd has had one. I do like icecream and treats... but there are just better ones IMHO to splurge on.

While I was uploading this to post I noticed the Cavemen under the Astronauts in this picture. That's pretty cool how they're blended in, and also a little strange (Cavemen in Space...? Sounds like something from the Sci-Fi Drive-In previews!)

I had never noticed that! Cool :thumbsup2

Just wanted to stop in and say that I'm enjoying your trip report. It's always great to hear about other people's race experiences!

That's actually why I only did the half this year! I read a lot of blogs and it seems to me that sometimes as runners, we tend to want to do it all at once and then are left in a bit of a funk/loss of what to do next. I probably would have been fine doing the GSC this year but I decided that I would wait and do it in 2015...gives me another excuse to go to Disney and drags it out a bit! ;)

See, the problem for me is now in my head I feel that the next logical step would be Goofy....unfortunately, my bank account begs to differ :(

I love those pins! I've never seen the Tremaine family pin before.

VACATION RUINED! :lmao: A Mickey bar sounds very good right now...

Love love Spaceship Earth.

Stick with the Boardwalk!!! It's literally awesome, and definitely worth at least one stay!! :thumbsup2

Glad you're enjoying! Isn't it funny to read how everyone runs the same race, but have very different experiences?

Love love Spaceship Earth.

Yeah- I haven't really seen much of them so I figured it was a pretty good find!

"It is our spaceship, our spaceship Earth" :earsboy:

Loving your TR! We are thinking of BW as well for next year. That or YC. I love the area. You still have to take the bus to the race site though right?:)

Well, I'm in great shape then as I just did the 10K this year. So...the half in 2015 and GSC in 2016....keeps me in Disney vacations for a while :goodvibes

Emily, I'm 99% sure I saw a picture of your back in another trip report. Not sure how to post a link, but it's JessM's report "Dinner was HOW much???" It was really funny - I think I yelled out to my computer, "Hey, that's Emily!" As if I know you guys.....

You're better than I was, I didn't even attempt to bring my Dad home a souvenir :rotfl2:

Awesome pin trades! I love the Hercules one, especially because he was actually out during the race that morning! And the Tremines who doesn't love them?!

Mickey bars are filled with pixie dust, much better than a regular ice cream bar ;)

Yes. runDisney doesn't let anyone walk to the starting line for safety reasons. I heard this was the first year they've really cracked down and enforced the 'no walking' policy.

THAT WAS ME!!! Hahaha, it's funny because Jess and I had like...identical trips and now we found out that we literally we right next to each other on the course at one point!

:thumbsup2 Yep, I figure the longer I drag it out, the more Disney trips I get! I know that eventually I'll probably want to do the Marathon as well, but I will NOT do Goofy or Dopey the first time...I'll save that for yet another trip! :lmao:

I agree- I'd love to do a full marathon but I don't plan to have a Disney marathon (or a challenge weekend including the marathon) be my first one.

I'm actually not sure I'll ever do Dopey. That just seems like a lot of running, and a lot of early mornings that'd be really tough on my body. I'd definitely like to take on Goofy one day, though!

That would make the most sense...I'm just a tiny bit afraid that a full marathon might be one and done for me....I feel as if running one would make me realize exactly how crazy it is and deter me from goofy, and I want that goofy medal!

Add me to the camp of no Dopey though, although I try to never say never when it comes to disney ;)

Just so you know, when I ran the marathon in 2013, I swore to my husband I was a one and done marathoner at about mile 23. By Tuesday we were talking about running the Goofy in 2015, and I finished my second marathon at Disney in 2014. I'm also doing another local marathon in November of this year. So, you might be surprised at how it gets in your blood. I know I was. :lmao:

Meeting the head cheese

Next, we knew we wanted to meet a VIM (very important mouse) and knew just the place to find him! Character spot had a posted wait of 10 minutes, but we probably waited a total of 3 minutes before we were meeting Mickey Mouse himself! We were very excited to get our pictures with the characters and all our medals-totally made it worth carrying all that metal around all day!

These medals were wayyyy to heavy for me to have all four on all day. Props to those who I saw (and heard) with your medals clunking around your neck all day!

Next up was Goofy. He was very impressed by our medals, so we told him we were thinking about running the goofy challenge one day! He said that sounded very tiring...we agreed.

Next up was Minnie!

I loved this setup for meeting the characters, and I’m glad we didn’t use one of our FP+ on this since it was such a short line.

After this, we were still waiting for our FP+ window for The Seas with Nemo, but we decided to head in that general direction anyways.

When we got up by the pavilion, we realized there was no line and just hopped in the standby line. After a nice trip under the sea, we wandered around the aquarium for a while, watching the manatees and chatting with a CM about dolphin training.

Since we hadn’t used our FP, we tried to reschedule for something else, but (surprise surprise!) the app wasn’t working and we didn’t really want/need any other Tier 2 FPs anyways.

We were getting hungry again (running a half marathon will do that to ya!) so we headed to sunshine seasons for a snack.

We walked onto living with the land. We didn’t ride this on our last trip, but we did eat at Garden Grill, so it was fun to figure out which part of the ride the restaurant overlooks. I love going through the greenhouses and seeing all the cool plants!

Nine pound lemons!

100_7233 by secondaryhoney, on Flickr

Would love to know exactly what you cook these in!

100_7232 by secondaryhoney, on Flickr

Next, we used our FP+ for Soarin’. I love this ride, but I would never wait hours for it….it isn’t THAT amazing!

With all our FP+ reservations used up, it was time to head to World Showcase for the evening. On the way, we ran into a very cute bear…

100_7234 by secondaryhoney, on Flickr

I thought it was a little strange that he didn’t have much of a line, but as we approached I realized it was because he was about to leave. The CM opened the line up to let us in which was super nice of her!

I confess that I had no idea what his story was...Emily had to explain it to me and I still think the whole thing is a little odd. But he was cute and very sweet to meet!

The first stop in our evening global travels was Mexico.

We took a quick boat ride through the pyramid, then I was getting my long awaited beverage-an avocado margarita!! I had heard about La Cava and this specific drink many times, but had never been here.

It was AMAZING. I am not a huge avocado fan, but it was so creamy and light and refreshing, I would not hesitate to get another one!

MJ got the blood orange margarita, which I tried some of. It was too strong for her taste, and almost too strong for mine, but it had a unique flavor and I’m glad I got to try it.

Just read through your TR so far... so good to read about the Princess weekend!

Congratulations on completing the GSC! :woohoo: ... as well as the 5k, that's a lot of miles in a weekend :thumbsup2 your outfits were great too.

Looking forward to reading more

Glad you're enjoying! :goodvibes

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Looks like a fun day at Epcot!

The good thing about running a half marathon is anytime you are hungry after you can stuff your face and not feel bad about it :rotfl: those snacks look delicious!

I wanted to try that avocado margarita this trip but my Mom and I were splitting and she hates avocado, next time though, it sound delicious!

That's so awesome that you got character pictures with your medals! Those are definitely great pictures to have.

That whoopie pie looks unreal. I want one!

DUFFY! I thought his story was a little weird at first too, but he's really grown on me.

Emily, I'm sure your finals are starting soon (as are mine...ugh!), so best of luck :thumbsup2
