In that article (which is heresay, btw...) it says that the plant wasn't inspected, which I find suspect... There's no actual "facts" in that article, it's all "he said/she said" stuff, so I find it to be a little "ehhhhh." Though the products go back to Jan 2007 being contaminated, so I wouldn't be surprised that there were problems, and probably ones that no companies that were using the produced peanut product were aware of.
Also, realize this is just one plant. There are other plants that produce products that are absolutely fine. I know in my company we have the same product that is produced in two different facilities (different pack sizes) so if you see something on the shelf, I'd say it's fine. Also, a common misconception with this is that jars of peanut butter are involved, which isn't the case. I can say at least for my company, we're being extremely diligent (to the point that we are canceling what we already have planned and devoting entire days to this) to get the tainted products off shelves.
