Complaining about the volume of FP threads

I just did a quick scan of active threads on the first page. Threads related to FP+ all have between 300-600 posts (most of them closer to 600 than 300). Threads addressing non-FP+ topics all have between 0-50 posts (most of them closer to 0 than 50).

To me, the takeaway is that FP+ is a big deal. It's a big, fairly contentious deal that people are discussing a lot.

I don't get the "complaining about the complaining" complaints. No one is forced to read or post on these threads. Yet, despite all the complaining about their existence, they are getting the most traffic. Should this surprise anyone? This is the biggest news to come out of WDW in a long time.

To hear some people describe the situation, everyone is just making a mountain out of a molehill. But it's not like we're debating about the size of drink cups being changed from 12 oz. to 10 oz. or the napkins going to a generic "Disney Parks" logo. We're talking about a significant change to the way all guests access the attractions. That is a giant pardigm shift for WDW and one with far-reaching implications that significantly impact people's vacations.

People on both sides of the debate have offered the suggestion that there be a locked sticky with "just the facts" about the current FP+ rules. I agree with that. I think it's a perfectly reasonable desire to have a resource where we can find "just the facts" pertaining to FP+.

What I don't understand is the desire to stifle all debate about such a huge topic. The most common reason I see stated is that people just don't want to be exposed to a contrarian viewpoint (i.e., "tired of all the negativity/whining/moaning/complaining/insert insulting term for anything that's not pro-FP+").

Complaining that there are too many FP+ debates on the DIS is like complaining that there are too many seminars on cavities at a dentist workshop. It's a highly relevant and timely topic. Of course, there are going to be a lot of debates about it.

I agree, it's a massive change to everything related to WDW.

I'm glad for the space to discuss anyway. It's interesting (to me) and helpful.

At a dentist convention I imagine they would be covering new information and techniques though. Not just rehashing the same basic debate in a dozen different threads.

I get that it's a big deal to people, but I think it's time they start asking themselves what they are actually contributing to the discussion.

New information?
First hand report?
Possible strategies?

Or just more of what's been said a hundred times already?

When it gets to the point that one topic drowns out everything else that's pretty much always a bad thing.

Incidentally did you just start a thread complaining about the people complaining about the complaints? How meta is this going to get? ;)

MAGICBOB...You have at least 2 choices.....read them or dont read them. the latter being you cant complain.

Bandwidth. Those multiple, multi-hundred post threads rehashing the same old opinions - not the facts, one locked sticky would be ideal - take up a lot of space. It slows down the boards.

Are you complaining about the threads that are complaining about the complaining about fast pass plus?

It's just comical at this point.

Come on now. At this point it's the same few posters saying the same thing, making the same jokes, making the same sarcastic remarks, writing the same dissertations thread after thread.

No one is solving the crisis in the Middle East here, but some posts take themselves way too seriously.

But I'm not complaining, post away! :rotfl: I will pick and choose what I read. :)

Ok.

Personally, I feel the DISboards are worth every cent we pay to be here.

Oh, wait............

The introduction of FP+ and the retirement of FP- presents the biggest change to park touring strategy since the creation of the Dis Board. Of course it is going to be discussed. In the coming weeks and months we will see more discussion of strategies such as the plans of attack recently published by Josh. But until then, discussion of the change itself will fill the space. If that is a problem for anyone, the thread titles make it easy to skip such threads.

I actually have found that there are lots of new posters contributing to the FP+ threads, which I've found to be interesting. Some of them have said they weren't uber-users at all but found FP+ to be limiting. I haven't really noticed the same trend of newbie FP+ supporters, but I may not have looked as carefully. It's like when you buy a new car and suddenly notice how many of that make and model are on the roads.

I love reading posts from both sides of the debate. I love Disney (a lot) and liked FP+ prior to the tiers. The tiers turned me into a detractor. I am also not a fan of how this rollout/testing has occurred. I know Disney can do better.

I do enjoy seeing what others have liked and disliked about the system. It helps me understand its value and its limitations and helps me plan for the future. Some part of me also hopes that if enough people complain TO Disney and not just here, that we might get some changes that I think would be almost universally applauded (more than 3 in MK, no tiers, and/or hopping). I don't think it needs to be all or nothing with doing away with FP+ altogether v. keeping it exactly as it is today. I am really hoping we can all find a middle ground.

Its actually really not the same few posters, what I find so interesting is that in almost these threads we are seeing more and more people jumping in with their thoughts and their experiences. Some have had great experiences with FP+ and some have had terrible experiences with FP+. I think they all add a little bit to the conversation.

What I think is hilarious is the number of people who are claiming there is no one here complaining that has actually experienced FP+, there are dozens and dozens now that have, and have come to complain.

At the same time, the people who say only those experienced in FP+ may comment, highlight the experiences of those who used FP+ while they could still pull additional FPs, or when the parks had very low crowd levels when neither FP+ or FP- would have had a real effect on your experience as ample evidence FP+ is great. Which some people have tried to point out to the people who post supportive comments about FP+ ...

There have been a few comments by FP+ "haters" that were over the top ... but the vast majority of them seem to be pretty reasonable, describing why FP+ doesn't work for them, or why on balance they don't think FP+ is positive. I have only seen one comment by someone who has said FP+ couldn't be better for anyone, and I haven't seen any FP+ "hater" tell another person to shut up, or "get over it" or "They hope they don't see them in the parks then" ...

But I have seen a lot of that from people who either like the sounds of FP+, or enjoyed FP+ on their trip, or just want to defend Disney ...

Really, people want to discuss this, that's cool, that's what these boards are for. Generally people are here discussing it because the love Disney, not because they want to see it crash and burn. And even when I am disagreeing with someone, I have still had some pretty good laughs, admitted some good points on their part, changed my perceptions even here and there, and generally enjoyed myself with other people who want to talk about all things Disney ... whats so wrong with that ???

Oh and  for good measure ?

In addition to contacting WDW, highly visible discussion, even including rehashing of ideas, can ultimately have an effect on the final product and any changes that might be made. It's not like these discussions and complaints are only happening here.

See, I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not?

Sorry, seems I may have offended some of you with my opinion. I will happily bow out of this thread. I don't internet argue very well. :rotfl:

The problem is that it is the same few people saying the same thing over and over and what it is going to hurt is people are going to stop coming here.

First of all to the bolded above ... LOL.

Secondly, it was meant as both. Serious that I would like to see a little less antagonism here, particularly intolerance for other people's opinions, even if they are complaints. But also a little tongue in cheek because in another thread someone admonished those of us who use pictures or emoticons in their responses :)

There are lots of meaningless threads that waste bandwidth on the boards (the numerous "chat" threads and useless game threads, for example).

Any discussion of FP+, positive or negative, does not fall into the wasting bandwidth category.
