Compared to the Tower of Terror...

I must be hallucinating then!!
Because it's been different for me !! Maybe every time I ride it more than once, they know I'm on it and they randomize it for me! I am pretty awesome.....

The ride can be very disorienting, making it hard to remember exactly what happens, but I assure you the drop pattern is the same, exactly what is specified in the Wikipedia entry. Two small drops, all the way up to the top of the tower, shaft opens, small drop, drop all way to the bottom, zoom up to the top and then immediately down to the bottom all in darkness, back up to the top with window open, small drop and shudder, then full drop back down to end the ride.

The next couple of times you go, make sure to take note of what happens, and you'll find the pattern.

ToT freaks me out because of the lack of restraints. It's a bench with dumb little handles and a lap belt that doesn't make me feel safe at all in a plummeting elevator or otherwise...

I've ridden other drop rides and while I'm not a huge fan of the feeling of dropping, I felt more comfortable in them because there was over-the-shoulder restraints.

Hey guys,

I didn't mean to start anything about the randomisation (and what's true at what park) :duck:
I personally don't know - I have done both a few times, but in a way of just enjoying it rather than trying to find a pattern.

I guess what I was trying to say is that: unlike other drop rides, ToT not just straight up then straight down.
It does multiple rises and falls, just something to be aware of for those who have done other drops and were wondering about ToT.
I think that was more what I was trying to say, just very badly :scared:

But I did learn something - I'll be sure to take note in future because it'd be great if the DCA one is set!
At least that way I can be a little more confident going in (*laughs* I'm always a little more apprehensive waiting in line but end up loving it, every time without fail :) )

My DH hates, no...DETESTS, drop rides like Free Fall at Magic Mountain and refuses to go on them. However, he loves riding Tower of Terror.

Same as me. I won't do the free fall drop rides at other parks, but I love TOT. Like others have said, TOT not a true free-fall.

I do like the tower rides that shoot you UP into the air, however. But not the ones that lift you up and then drop.

I have been on ToT at DCA hundreds of times. It is the exact same drop sequence every time. It may have been tweaked in the past, but for the past 3 years or so since I have been going on it a ton it is exactly the same

The drop sequence is what was described in a previous post. Drop down, all the way up to the top, small drop to the other open door, drop to the middle, up to just below the doors, full drop, then all the way back up to the final drop. The only thing that can be different is that I know in one of the towers the second elevator scene is on a different level than the others. I can't remember if in two of the towers you go up to the second scene or down to it but in one tower its the opposite of the other two.

This is me! I've been on the straight drop rides and I hate them. I hyperventilate. My whole body tenses up. Just not a fun experience. But the TOT is different. Yes, it falls. But it doesn't fall all 200 feet. It does it in segments, and then lifts you quickly. It's just a lot of fun.

The restraints now are better than when TOT first opened in DHS. I was about 8 when we went and it only had a lap bar for the whole bench. So my little 8 year old legs under the same bar as my parents and I was getting serious air! :scared1:I remember basically wrapping my body around the bar, holding on to dear life while both of my parents were holding me. So I definitely enjoy the lap belt.

IMO the scariest parts of the ride are waiting in the line, its dark, there are cob webs and a video of people who never returned after riding the ride. Also scary is the first drop, after the first drop your nerves are more calm but also a door opens up and you can look out at the whole park giving you an idea of how high you are, which makes it scarier.
