Compare "the feeling" you get on Mission:Space with...

...other rides. I don't like the 3-D rides that bounce you around (like Spiderman at US-IOA), but I love the fast, pushed-back-in-your-seat feeling at the end of the outside portion of Test Track.

I've never been on M:S and I'm a bit worried. So, can you compare the feeling to another ride for me?

TIA

It is defintely the pushed back in your seat feeling, and one of speed. It's not bouncy at all, just a few movements when you go thru an asteriod shower. I love test track and I love M:S.

I don't think I can compare MS to another ride. It made me feel sick for hours after, but I'm glad I tried it because I was really curious. I like that park of test track, and I don't like 3-D rides that bounce you around either. MS spins you around while you look at the screen in front of you. It's definitely a weird feeling.

M:S gave me a feeling I never felt before, I don't think I can compare it to anything else I have ever experienced! Some people have gotten sick and I can definitely understand why. You really have to keep your head still, look straight ahead and DO NOT close your eyes- it will make it worse!

I normally don't like rides that make me dizzy... the "feeling" I got from M:S only lasted a short time afterwards, I dont' recall a lingering headache or anything...

It's definetly a pushed back feeling. I went on it after eating at San Angel Inn & having a margarita & I was fine. It reminded me of those spinning rides where you're in that circle thing & stick to the wall - the skin on your face feels like it's pulling back & your arms are hard to lift. I didn't have any problem looking away - I actually felt better when looking at Gary Sinese on the TV to the left of me rather than the strange screen in front of me.

I have not been on MS yet either. Body wars and star tours killed me. The only thing that saved me is looking away from the movie and focusing on something in the vehicle. Can you do this on MS? I've heard to keep your eyes open and look straight ahead. Can you do this and not watch the motion on the "movie"?? The poster above talked about looking at a TV screen to the side.

I hope what I am saying makes sense. For me it's not the motion that makes me sick it is usually the movie part. I can get carsick playing race car video games, but I have ridden on the spinning ride where the floor drops down and you stick to the wall and not felt sick at all.

I don't do rides that spin. That being said, I have done mission space the last two times I have been to WDW. It made me feel somewhat queasy for a half hour or so. I would do TT, then go and do MS. Then hang out and go on the slow moving rides in Epcot or tour the world showcase. I was not up for another jolting type or fast ride after MS. I wasn't sick, just out of sorts.

MS is unlike any other ride anywhere. It's now my favorite at WDW, I've never experienced any discomfort on it- but I have a cast iron stomach. On our last trip, I went on it right after eating lunch (that was the way my FASTPASS worked out) and still had no ill effects. But I know many others have; it's the only ride I've ever seen that has airsick bags right on board! Other members of my family rode once and enjoyed it, but will not ride again; it left them queasy for hours. Not me; I used their FASTPASSes once and rode 4 times in a row.

What interesting is that while you're on the ride you have NO IDEA that you are "spinning". You feel forces of it, that's what great about the ride. But do you go "upside down"? I don't think so, but I really don't know. It's the ultimate simulator, you really feel the effects of what you are seeing on the screen in front of you. But there is nothing jarring about it, like on Body Wars or Star Tours. Just the G forces you'd experience on actual space flight.

I think everyone should try it, unless they are absolutely sure it will upset their stomach. The only close feeling would be on those centrifuge type rides at amusement parks where you stick to the wall. Otherwise, follow the instructions, keep your eyes open, head back and face forward, and have the ride of your life!

aec - There are 2 screens to look at. The one in front of you shows where you are going into space - it's computer generated & it made me feel a little funny. Then there's a screen to the side of that which is just a TV screen showing the people that are telling you what to do in your "cockpit". I had no problem with looking down at the "controls" in front of me or at the TV screen, but for me there was something strange about the computer generated image in front of me. I could tell I was spinning only because I could feel my eyes correcting themselves - like having nystagmus where a person's eyes keep going back & forth. But maybe I had some inner ear issues that day which made me more suceptible. In any event, I didn't feel sick, but then again I don't get carsick or get motionsickness in general.

I loved this ride. I really don't think I could compare it to anything....it does give you that pushed back feeling, but I never felt like I was spinning. As long as you keep you head back on the seat and don't try to look around a whole lot you should be okay. It is hard to tell you how the ride feels because it feels a little different for everyone. I felt like I was being launched into space...no spinning at all (but I have never had a problem with motion sickness).

I rode this ride in Oct. and dont' think it really compares to the other simulated rides. You feel the pressure and a little light-headed and weightless at the same time. I am glad I rode it, but I came out shaking and was naseous for a couple hours after too. And everytime I see anything about it, I shake my head at husband and say "Never again!" If you think you will physically be ill, don't ride it. If you will just be naseous, I say go for it so you'll know. It's worth a try in my opinion, just to have done it.

If you are prone to motion sickness - skip MS. :flower1:

I have only done MS once and want to do it again. I was queasy when I got off, but I didn't follow the rules and looked around the whole time and then tried closing my eyes at one point. BUT, the feeling is intense and wonderfully fun.

You all are saying it doesn't jerk you around, but my memory is saying that when you land on Mars you overrun the landing pad and bounce and bump to a stop. I remember it being a LOT like Star Tours for those moments. Is my memory playing tricks on me?

Actually I love simulator rides like star tours and don't get car sick either but I got very sick on ms. It didn't feel like spinning and it was really neat but halfway through I really felt like someone had reached through my head to my stomach and turned me inside out. It was awful. The sensation lasted an hour. If you only knew for sure whether you would get sick or not it would be great to ride. Not worth it if you feel like I did but an incredible ride if you don't.

Ok - that tells me not to try this!

the launch scenario is outstanding. that is worth the hour of queasiness i felt all by itself. I will go on everytime i go to epcot.
