I've stayed at Emerald Island before and loved it. Looking for other areas for vacation homes that may be slightly cheaper.

Can anyone provide information about significant differences between Emerald Island, Rolling Hills and Indian Creek in terms of:

- age of the properties
- general prices of home rentals (haven't yet had a chance to look at individual properties)

I know they're all in the same vicinity, and we plan to rent a house with its own pool so don't need to know differences in the the main pool areas right now.

Thanks in advance

Indian Creek and Rolling Hills are both older than EI.

We looked at homes on Indian Creek and I personally didn't like the feel of the community, but that may just be me! FYI, there is a road running right through the middle of Indian Creek which basically splits the community in two. That maybe one of the reasons I didn't like it (plus it felt closed to me - very little in the way of open spaces)

Both will probably be cheaper than EI.

The homes on both communities will more likely be 4, 5 and possibly some 6 bedroom homes. EI tends to have more 6 and 7 bedroom homes. EI also has townhome (but that won't affect you looking for a pool home) and the other communities do not.

Windsor Palms is also in that area if you are interested. www.windsor-palms-florida.net for homes by owner there.

Also Indian Creek and Rolling Hills are not gated at all. Rolling Hills has no community facilities, Indian Creek does have a playground and sports area.

Thanks so much.

Being in a gated community is important to me. Anyone have other suggestions for gated areas other than Emerald Island, Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms?

Its generally the newer communities that have gates. Do you have a preference for manned / unmanned gates?

Is Solana gated? I think it may be. That community is down the 27 south of the 192.

Terra Verde (Down Poinciana)
Acadia Estates (Near EI)
Formosa Gardens (Near EI)

That's all I can think of for now. I am sure others will have suggestions.

No Oak Island isn't gate but Formosa Garden Estates, Acadia Estates, and Sunset Lakes all have coded gates. Terra Verde has a manned gate.

The area where emerald island resort, rolling hills and indian creek resorts are all in a great location. I am sure there are beautiful homes in each.

The differences are that eir has amenities and manned gate.

We just got back yesterday from our stay in Sunset Lakes. We loved it. It's gated and our house was wonderful.

This is a great thread! I've stayed at Windsor Palms and Windsor Hills, and loved 'em both, but am definitely widening my search for our next vacation home. I haven't found it easy to get info on the communities themselves.

just wandering, after our great misfortune we lost our place at FGE due to Welcome USA going under and now are staying in EIR, should I be looking for a refund from the company we booked through? or are they similarly priced?:confused3

Generally the 7 beds at Formosa are more expensive than at EI as they are larger. However it does depend on the negotiated rate. Welcome USA operated as a tour operator and negotiated bulk rates with their suppliers.

Cumbrian Lakes is a small gated community, near Terra Verde both are off Poinciana Blvd off the 192. Both communities were built around 2004.
