I recently had received a flyer in the mail from TruGreen Chemlawn(TGC) for a free lawn inspection and estimate. We allowed them to comeout. They quoted us a price of $67 every 6 weeks with the first app being $47. We figured we would give it a shot. They came and did 2 applications, which we payed for no problem. The only problem was this also caused out water bill to skyrocket to close to $60 a month  so we decided it was better to just not continue with it. I called TGC and told them. They asked why. I explained this to them, and I also told them that I was getting an application done on areas of the yard that did not need it also. They said they could come out and do another free look at the yard. I agreed for them to come out and re-evaluate the yard, but NOT spray until I said. Well in they came and made the application anyway.

I called them and explained what happened. I also told them I would NOT pay for the application as I had called to cancel, and they sprayed anyway, even the areas I said I DIDNT want. Well it is now 4mo later, and I am STILL fighting this bill. I have basically told them I will NEVER go back to them in the future as they will not accept it was their mistake and credit me for it and be done with it. I also told them that I was going to tell all my friends how horrible their customer service was....LOL if they only knew how many "friends" I had..LOL..

Ok, I just had to rant a bit....Sorry PopDaddy for the long post..:p

Sorry you're having trouble. We have them come out and do a portion of our yard 4 times a year and haven't had any problems. They do call a lot offering their other services though.

Why does it increase your water bill? We find we're able to keep the lawn green and healthy with much less water than before.

Well I live in FL....It gets REALLY hot and the lawn is always dry. They kept telling me that I needed to water more....And to top that off, the water company penelizes you if you use more than they think you should be

I have had trouble with them as well. We sold our house earlier in the summer and I called to cancel the service. Went through the whole "why are you cancelling" thing. I happened to drive by the old house a couple of weeks later and saw that the lawn has been sprayed. Sure enough, a bill comes through the change of address. I called and refused to pay the bill saying I had cancelled and could prove I didn't live there anymore. It as a hassle, but they ended up writing it off.

UGH I have had terrible luck with them as well!!

We ae Scotts people now. Tru Green has done that to everyone I know.

We are having some problems with TruGreen as well. In fact we are having another lawn care company out to look at our lawn today or Monday. They let a weed get really out of control in our lawn and then our service guy said psst I have a friend who can redo your lawn and put in a irrigation system for a decent price. Now I wonder if the lawn was let to get this way on purpose.

We had the worst luck with them as well. After I finally cancelled, they called me dozens of times to get me to sign on again. It was so intrusive and it was CONSTANT! Finally, I think my DH got really nasty and I haven't heard from them again. They're like a cult. Too expensive....who cares how the stupid lawn looks anyway!

Sorry just wanted to say your Puggles are the cutest! I have a lab and DD's friend just got a pug puppy, he is such a snuggler. He goes nuts whenever I call his name, I guess they know who loves them! He runs to me like I'm his fav person in the world.

BTW I would just go with the natural look. I don't get it when people live in areas where there is water shortage and they have that unnaturally green lawn look. We have lots of trees, we have moss, brown patches, etc. I don't mulch a perfect pile around ever tree, I like it natural looking.

We used to have Tru Green. They would continually call me to do other services. I asked them not to. They continued. I said if you call again, I will cancel the regular service. They called again, I canceled.

We use Scotts now and have had no problems.

Well I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has had trouble with them. I agree totally with them calling ALL the time too. I probably will go with another company in the near future...Maybe I will look into Scotts

OMG!! These people will NOT stop calling our house! Every night, there they are on the caller ID. I cancelled my service and they came back TWICE and sprayed. They said I had to pay for one of them, but not the other. I figured it was worth the $68. to get rid of them. Now they just keep calling despite my DH demanding that they stop.

Unbelievable. You wouldn't mind, but it was their guy who told us that we needed a complete overhaul and their services wouldn't help us! Our home is new construction and we're having a hard time getting a decent lawn going. We got interrogated about why we were cancelling....like we needed a valid reason!!!

Thats when I would call the Better Business Bureau. Then threaten TGC to call the local news with one of the citizen watchdog reporters if they don't clear it up.

When I lived in MA I had them...they let some weed get out of control in the yard and it took over..then they sprayed something 'superstrong'..well it not only killed the weed..but the lawn!..I was furious..of course they told me that they could send someone out to redo the entire lawn..but their price didn't suit me..I called other lawn companies to get estimates..called Chemlawn back and told them I had 3 estimates UNDER their price..to fix THEIR mistake..they told me they couldn't do any better...so I cancelled...I redid the lawn myself..and after threatening to file complaints with the BBB and the Attorney General's consumer protection council....Chemlawn refunded me for the applications I had done that year..and provided the grass seed needed to redo the entire lawn...
Time to call Scott's for me too!
Lynn
