Target BF ad has the Vivitar 880hd compact digital video camera for $30...I'm looking for a starter video camera for my 8 almost 9 year old DD to make her own "movies". Is this a decent enough choice or is it something that will crap out after 2 months? I don't want to spend a ton, but also don't want to get sucked into a deal when it isn't something that will last longer than a few months. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I don't know about that particular model but I did buy DD7 a Vivitar for xmas last year. It was garbage and she was not happy that she couldn't take decent videos or photos.

I purchased a Panasonic Lumix on sale for $100 which was a bit more than I would like to spend but it takes very nice photos and videos.

I would look for something else, there should be some great deals for Canon, Kodak, and the like this month. No point in spending $30 or $40 on something when you need to replace it later.

EDIT: I also purchased a Kodak Playsport on sale for myself for $100 and we all love it. DD is able to use it and the videos look great.

I bought my daughter a Kodak Playfull today at Target for 70$. It was 60$ off the regular price. The reviews on this camera were good.

We got our DD a Kodak Mini. I found it on deal a few weeks ago for $35, but on Amazon, you can get one for $60. We haven't used it yet since it's a Christmas gift, but the reviews seemed good.

My son prefers to make videos on the ipod so he can watch them immediately. We have an underwater kodak (I think its a playsport) but he really prefers the ipod - or my phone! LOL

Not sure if this is the same camera, but there is a new verion of the Playfull that is waterproof and shock proof. I just bought 2 for my kids 10 and 7 for Christmas. They are the size of a credit card (like an ipod) and are real easy to use, good quality cameras.

I recommend the Flip cameras. You can find them pretty cheap on Amazon. They are SO easy to use, and don't require any cords to plug in to the computer because the USB flips (thus the name) out of the device and can be plugged right in.
