Hello! I have a canon powershot digital camera and am looking for a compact tripod to use during fireworks. I would prefer something that folds up pretty small and skinny, but isn't too short. Does this exist? I have been searching on google and haven't found anything. I appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I would suggest one of the table top type ones for you power shot, and just set it up on one of the conviently placed flat topped trash cans.

The Gitzo GT1550T meets your requirements. It's just two pounds, extend up to 57" high, and pack down to 14" tall. The downside is that it's a bit pricey and each leg has five sections to deal with.

How tall do you want it to go?

There are the table-top variety and the kind that sit on the ground.

I wasn't sure how to use the table top ones. I guess I would have to be near a trash can or somewhere else to lean it. I thought there might be a relatively long one (4 feet perhaps) so that I could just rest it on the ground. At the same time I don't want to carry around something so bulky and heavy. Not sure if I will find anything like this.

A bit pricey! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
:lmao:if you pay me $600 you can glue your camera to my head and i'll try not to breath:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
i second the gorilla pod since you could use it as a table top or attach it to something like a tree is you wanted more height.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to think about it. I usually take pics of the fireworks and some come out okay. So I thought if I got a tripod more would come out good.

That is the second time today you have literally made me laugh out loud. The first was about the teacher and the phone and umm multi-tasking.

Thanks Jann. :lmao:

OK - didn't mean to get off topic

Check out this one - the Velbon Maxi. 17.5" collapsed, 62.5" at max height, weighs 1.9 pounds. $70 including ball head - that's cheap for what is apparently quite a nice tripod. I seriously considered one before deciding that I needed to dig deeper to get one that could support more weight (I have one particularly big/heavy lens, though it's on eBay at the moment...)
