ARGH!

I couldn't be more frustrated with this program,

It's listed in the Contact Us section as if anyone can apply. When you apply, for awhile, it tells you that you have to log/be on a certain amount of hours before you can be one (and what about adults who play for fun but have work and things to keep them from being on 24/7...it'd take forever to be allowed to apply). Then once you finally get allowed to apply, you spend a long time writing a thoughtful, well-written application to get something that goes like this.

I just NOW sent in a CL application. I used my saved version of a very well-written application at 12:56.

In my email at 12:57, I recieved this reply:

Hi there!
Thanks for taking the time to fill out the Community Leader application form. We're sorry, but we're not accepting any new applications at the moment.
We will announce any changes to the Community Leader Program at www.vmk.com
Thanks,

Guess that lets us know where they on CL apps. No one could have even READ mine and responded back that quickly. It HAS to be automated, becaue nothing sent to the BLACK HOLE ever gets responded to so quickly.

It seems very strange considering I've seen a lot of people on several boards saying they just got made CLs.

:furious: :furious: :furious:

One of my friends just became a CL a few days ago, along with Erin.
About a month ago, they opened up new applications for a brief time.
Other players applied months ago whenever VMK would open the enrollment,
yet they'd still be passed over.

I have no idea what VMK looks for in their criteria for a leader. I did try to
apply right around the time Beta ended, and I received the "you haven't
played long enough" message.

I came to my senses and never applied again to get the questionaire, let
alone send one in for review. ;) Maybe they read chat logs. I really
don't know. But I do believe that if I did apply during the next round of
enrollment, they wouldn't approve my application. :teeth:

Just keep helping the way you have been, and keep trying to apply.
Periodically they do open enrollment, and they might post it on the home
page or newsletter the next time.

yup totally understand been trying since day one. Not meant to be I guess.

But I am still around to help the new guests :)

how do you know when they are taking applications? do you just send in an application every day and cross your fingers? I didn't see any indication last time they opened :confused3

They keep telling me that it will be posted on the home page when they do. But if some people hear right away and some don't, does that mean the ones they've been saving for months then get to part of whatever number they're allowing to become CL when they open it again?

Who knows?

I asked and VMK gave a nebulous answer about the 'not been long enough' timeframe and didn't answer what are they looking for.

It's just another one of those things that people are going to wonder about favortism with because no clear definables are given to people to work and achieve to get to.

Hi there,
I just became a Leader last month. I have been sending them app's ever since May, and I just got a reply saying I am approved.

They do say they post stuff in the news letter, but they never do. Unless it's a long term acception period, they do not post it.

They answered your e-mail on teh CL_ app time just as I would have. We have to many leaders in the leaders in the game. Really. Like I said, I tried since may of 2005, and they kept disapproving me. But I just made. So really just got to wait.

If you do get approved, you get sent questions and you must answer them and send them back. Then, if they like what you have, you get approved to be a leader!

That's all I can tell you.

VMK staff had the intention last month of announcing that they were going to accept leaders once again. Many leaders have moved on and others had lost their title for various reasons.

The problem was, somebody found out they were open to applications again before the announcement could be made, and word travels fast within the VMK community. A good number, including myself, submitted our requests. However that good number happened to be overwhelming, and so the applications were closed 2 1/2 days after it was opened and staff was never able to make such announcement.

From what I understand, if you haven't played for approximately 3 months (and a certain amount of hours in those 3 months), you are not eligible to become a leader. After that, they determine if the reason you give for becoming a leader is one they approve of. And you are then sent a set of questions to answer, checking your knowledge of VMK.

After you submit the questions, if they are what staff are looking for in those responses, they then hold this on file. If they don't agree with your responses, you are basically told that you do not qualify at this time. If there is an opening for a new leader, and you are next in line, you get the priveledge.

In my case and several others who were recently give the CL privelege, we had submitted more than a month ago and never got a response back. Assumedly this meant they liked what they saw, but there were no openings at the time. Many of you know, that several recently appointed leaders lost their status almost a day or two after receiving it. Openings were made because of that and thus more of us have just been given the priveledge.

Thanks for the info, Erin...

I know the app won't let you until you've been in the required amount of time, which I can understand because you need to gain knowledge of VMK first. Now, if it's say over a month's worth of time before it allows you to apply and then they still won't consider you until after you've been on three months, that info should be available somewhere...I guarantee it would make their jobs easier rather than sorting the same people over and over.

Also, I do think it might behoove them to have more clearly stated guidelines as to what they 'approve of' and what they expect from a CL. If you write an application about wanting to help people and improve the community, etc...that's certainly part of VMK values and should be approved of. But since there's no guidelines, it's sort of...a crapshoot. You can be left wondering (and I've heard others express these thoughts): "well, my app might have been good, but they just aren't taking apps cause that's what the email said" but then you hear people say if they like your app they will hold onto until they do have openings. That sort of indicates the responses about not taking apps at this time are lies. They are taking apps, they just AREN'T appointing anyone at the moment.

I definitely am not criticizing the choices they've made for them recently (I'm sure you'll make a great one and congrats to you and the recent others) but they way they choose and appoint CLs seems to lend itself towards people feeling that there could be favoritism. There's just nothing clear about the process except where to send it.

I have been playing for over a year and just tried sending in an application to see what would happen. It said I was not "ready" yet. :lmao:

I don't know what they are thinking or I may be going nuts...

Don't get this game and probably never will... but I love it :)

so was this before or after you answered their questions???? because i sent in my app over a month ago, and never got questions back. so does this mean there is still hope, or not????

Lax, they make up many excuses to not make you join because they are full.

Dancergirl, Do you have aol? If you're using an aol account you will not get anything because of the filter.
Usually, they send a e-mail reply saying that you can't join or with the questtions(which is more rare).

with mine they sent questions and nobody got back to me i guess they did not like my awnsers

Before the questions.

And when they are not accepting applications, they do have an automated system in place to kick back a "not accepting" message for everybody. If you don't get an auto message, then they are most likely taking apps.

As for favoritism, I will not deny that is a very valid factor, as I personally have witnessed that occur with regards to punishment of VMK Value violation by certain CL's.

okay. so say i sent it an app in late july (i sent in a new one yesterday because i sensed that i may not have sent it right).............. i never heard back from the july one. if i had sent it correctly, does this mean that they are considering????

Another very good reason you might not have gotten a reply is their system doesn't work with your mail provider. I went through close to 10 providers before I got one that allowed a reply back.

10 Providers? Wow! I know they have problems with aol, right? Do you know what others they might have problems with?

Yes. You send it from the homepage. But, your VMK account is attached to an email address. It's either your own that you signed up on VMK with, Or your parents (if you're under a certain age). That is where they will send any responses. If it's an aol email account, you will not get any response. You need to see what provider that email address is through. :)

I tried a lot of the free ones but Yahoo ended up being the only one to work right.

Just to let everyone know, I've been working with QA_Caffdawg to try to find out why I never heard back about any of my applications. We have determined that Comcast.net, which is my ISP, does not seem to work with VMK's e-mail.

You do not have to change your primary e-mail association with your Disney account, however. All I did was enter in a Yahoo account that I had floating around, and poof, next test message got an auto reply. First time I've ever heard back from VMK!
