Common mistakes.. And how to avoid them

As I continually remind my wife, I am above reproach. I resolved years ago to avoid making any mistakes, as perfection is more efficient. If I appear to have made a mistake, I can only modestly note that I am always right, but reality sometimes makes errors!

Sounds like DH!

Good points in that article. I'd like to staple it to the heads of a few photographers I know.

Especially this part...

Worrying too much about gear. This usually takes the form of hauling around everything you own for every shoot and believing a new piece of equipment will solve some deficiency in your images that can almost always be traced back to photographic skill, or more specifically, the lack thereof.

:lmao:, hunny is that you?:wave2:

One look at my fireworks photos from the other night will reveal that I am, as my wife says, "full of beans." She also uses the term "dork" more often than is warranted, in my opinion.

The most common mistake I make in photography is not checking my settings. I've gotten better at checking to make sure I don't have auto-bracketing turned on when I don't want it, or exposure compensation dialed in, or my ISO set too high. But it still happens!

Here is a motto I adopted for myself:

"Often wrong, never in doubt." ;)

The problem is usually that I'm not in doubt — if I were, I'd check my settings. It happens much less frequently than it once did, though. Nothing teaches like experience, especially mistakes!

Great article...todays cameras are a marvelous piece of equipment...and they make all of us better photographers... but in the end, it still comes down to the photographer- especially those really fantastic photos.

So much to learn...

Funny, that's how I describe my husband ;)

My most common mistakes are a) not taking enough time to be prepared for shooting an event, then rushing and messing up. Then there's b) not making the effort to get to the right or special place to take the photo I want. Like right now. I'm looking at at least 10 schooners all lined up in the harbor, and I'm scheming how I can get a decent shot without moving. When I know I need to get off my lazy you-know-what and walk up the hill and around to the face of the harbor. Maybe after coffee...

I keep a file of "almost but no cigar" photos to remind me of my shortcomings
