Common DIS bashes you disagree with?

I'm really enjoying the thread titled "Common DIS raves you disagree with", and some people were mentioning some restaurants that got bad reviews that they actually liked. I thought it might be a good idea to hear from some folks who LIKE the restaurants that commonly get "bashed".

I've only been on 2 trips, and this last one I avoided all the ones with lots of bad reviews, so I don't have a good example.

I'll start off by saying that I ate at H&V on my first trip, and don't understand the hate? It wasn't the best meal of my trip, but it was clean, there were lots of choices that were pretty good, the desserts were good, and the service was very nice.

Anyone else? I'd love to hear some good things about places I'm sorta afraid to try!

We LOVE O'hana's for b/fast & dinner (during Wishes.) We also LOVE Coral Reef. (Le Cellier was getting pretty bashed on the other thread & we can't get enough of that mushroom filet, I just have to say!)

Tony's Town Square. I think hearing all the bashes may have helped us like it more! We were really expecting a terrible meal and aside from DD's meal we loved it. The tiramisu and lemon cake were amazing!

Akershus lunch/dinner - always see posts along the lines of 'we don't like the food but we just go for the princesses...' Well, we like the food. Is it pinpoint-authentic Norwegian cuisine? No. Is it a good meal? Yes.

Chefs de France - see a lot of folks who are disappointed with this one, but we like it a lot. It isn't five-star gourmet French (and it's not supposed to be), but we like it, and I've never had a rude/indifferent server there.

H&V - I agree with the earlier post about this one, people hatehatehate it but it is actually pretty good to us, especially with the relative lack of fantabulous dining in that park. Solid, clean, variety and friendly service... a winner in our book.

Shutters at CRB - people don't go here, and many of those who do go seem to wish they hadn't for some reason or another, but we enjoy it. It is very laid back, the food is consistently good, the service is friendly and accomodating (sometimes even seem excited to actually have guests in the dining room).

Les Chefs de France, Captain's Grille and Coral Reef. I love all three yet they get many negative comments here.

LCdF: Hearing so many not so good reviews on here made me lower my expectations a little bit. When we arrived I asked for a window table, it was the F&WF soft opening at 7 and we wanted to people watch. The hostess said it may take a bit longer... which was about 2 minutes haha. See picture below with our view. The service was very very good and she was very polite. She had said there was a mishap in the kitchen so food was taking a little longer which was ok... we were in no hurry. She was so nice about it, giving us updates every couple of minutes... although our food took a while, she made it ok.

Captain's Grille, then Yacht Club Galley: We had to fill in a DDP credit and we happened to be in the area. Lunch had just opened up so we and a couple other groups were the only ones there. The service was good, I love not feeling rushed, and so was the food.

Coral Reef: We asked for an aquarium seat last minute. We knew threw the Dis that things can get slow in the peak times of the evening so I used my noggin and decided to book for the first available time at 4:30. The food was wonderful, the service was great which was surprising since our server had another table of 2 and a table of 8... it got busy FAST. Plus we got to see some divers surprise a little girl on her birthday!

I would also agree that Chefs de France gets a bad bash on the dis. It's not near as good as Bistro upstairs but I think for a 1 credit TS at WDW, it's quite charming.

LTT and Chef Mickeys. I always hear about how bad the food is at both places, but I've never experienced this. Granted the food at LTT isn't haute cuisine and Chef Mickeys is buffet fare, and the characters (at least when they were still at LTT) were the big draw, but I've always thought that the food was fine.

San Angel! I think people go in there looking for taco bell and then get upset when they get real mexico food. I think the atmosphere alone makes it worth it, although I will admit that the place is overcrowded and I've had lousy service there more than once.

ITA :thumbsup2

Also agree about 'Ohana - we enjoy the food and atmosphere for both breakfast and dinner

Chefs de France (gets mixed reviews), we loved it! We also loved CM breakfast.

We enjoyed Mama Melrose, it's not the best Italian food I've ever had, but it was good.

Chef Mickey's dinner gets bashed a lot but we love it! The food is not gourmet, but we expect that being a buffet and all. This will be the first time in four visits that we were not able to get an ADR on our first night. Bummer. :sad2:

Sci-Fi gets bashed a lot too, and we also like that place and have never had a bad meal (and we didn't have hamburgers either!)

And Le Cellier. I can't understand when that place gets bad reviews. The food is wonderful there! And I've eaten in some very nice non-chain restaurants in my lifetime too, so it's not like I've got an un-refined palate or something! Maybe the other folks just hit it on a bad night or something? :confused3

Bashes I disagree with: Chefs de France, Spoodles (of course that's subject to change now), Coral Reef

Raves I disagree with: Le Cellier, California Grill (not horrible, but not superfantastic either), Tangierine Cafe, San Angel Inn, O'hana (also, not horrible, but...)

I enjoyed Sci-Fi both times I went. It sure takes a beating here, but I wonder if some of that has more to do with its perceived "value" (or lack thereof) for people on the DDP.

Sci Fi, gets a bad rap but we loved it! The burgers and onion rings and the reuben....all very good and the atmosphere is awesome! The quietest restaurant in WDW

Tonys on Main Street...gets terrible reviews and we had dinner there earlier this month and we really enjoyed it!

Chefs de France, Chef Mickey,s CRT....

My DD loves Chefs de France, DMom loves Chef Mickeys and I love CRT.... we are going to many places in our upcoming May trip that are usually frowned upon on the Dis... like Mama Melrose... but we happen to like them... as long as you go in knowing what to expect I am fine with a nice hot meal that I don't have to cook.....
