I wanted to take a moment to say how gracious every single person was when we asked for a cup of ice water at a CS spot. Once or twice that's all we wanted, other times it was with meals, but it made no difference. Everyone was so nice.

How wonderful that worked out for us.
They give you a huge cup of ice water with a cover. Some places the water tasted ok, others we were happy we had our little additives. We brought green tea and lemonade in the individual serving packs and they were great.
I don't think this gets as much publicity as it deserves.

I'd never carry nor buy (at $2.50 a bottle in the parks) bottled water again. Take advantage of this while it lasts!

As long as I had plenty of ICE...I could manage the taste of FL water.

Another nice treat is to freeze Kool-Aide Jammers or Capri Suns...make nice slushie style drinks as they thaw.

Is the water that bad? I remember last time I went just buying one water bottle and filling it whenever I stopped for food somewhere...

I completely agree. One of my biggest pet peeves is paying for bottled water.

We brought the little Kool-aid packs with us and added those! We were traveling in August and needed lots of drinks. I can only imagine the cost if we were buying bottled water. :scared1:

I rarely buy bottled water at home but on vacation I always do. The free water is great, but drinking strange water always makes my stomach upset. It's not that the water is bad-I'm just not used to it. Why take the risk of feeling bad on vacation? I just buy a huge bottle and refill smaller bottles or bring from home.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up. I've always been too much of a chicken to ask. I just was so afraid of being looked at like a thief!

Its so funny you are posting this today. We are here now and I always drink ice water with my meals while my family always orders a beverage. I was complaining to my family that they get free refills without asking, while I almost have to beg for a refill of my water. I would even PAY for the water because I prefer it.

I am glad the counter service are more water friendly than the table service are.

I told my DS that I would think the waitstaff would be more willing to refill my water if they realized I was the money man who left the tip, and he just told me they figured I just looked cheap!

For those that are worried about the taste....that water comes out of the soda machines and is very very filtered. I used to work in a restaurant here in Florida and the board of health requires the water to be 99.9% free of anything. The actual figure is .0001 parts per million. So the tap water in your room might taste funky but water at a restaurant is just as good as that bottle of water.

We have always asked for the cups of ice water at CS places while we are walking around the parks. In our last 6 trips, only once were we given any kind of grief. We were at Aloha Isle getting Dole Whips and asked for a cup of ice water as well. They told us NO - they weren't allowed to do that. I asked them why and since when and the guy told me that his manager told them not to give out cups of ice water because then they wouldn't sell as much bottled water. I told him that every other place in the parks give out ice water so he "made an exception" and gave us a cup. I was really shocked.

I've never had a problem getting free water. But one place at the Studios last trip wasn't giving the nice large cups - they had a self service drink station and gave you a small cup for the ice water. Obviously so the CM's who might be watching the drink station knew that you had not purchased a soda. Wasn't a problem for me since I just kept refilling the small cup with ice and water and pouring it into my refillable nalgene water bottle anyhow.

The water from counter service restaurants has always tasted fine to us. We don't add flavoring. If I re-fill from a water fountain or my room, I do add some Crystal Light sometimes because the taste can be a bit odd.

Soda fountain stations usually have filtered water because it mixes better with the soda syrups, so I will drink water from soda fountains but I don't tend to drink them from the tap or from water fountains. Besides I taught school after 9 years of watching children drink from water fountains, I avoid them like the plague.

We too get free cups of ice water when walking around the parks. Just this last trip we brought powered drink mix (iced tea and lemonaid) in a zip top bag in our back pack to mix in the water. It was really nice -we never got any grief at all!!

Once when it was my birthday and I was wearing my button, I went up to the drink place in tomorrow land and asked for 2 ice waters - they asked if one was for me, and when i answered yes, they said - hey, because its your birthday, you can have any drink you want on us!!!!!!!!

We got free ice water at both MK and AK - no problems at all. I had bought some Gator-aide packets to mix with, but really didn't need it. The water from the CS places tasted fine, while the water fountain water had a bit of a taste.

Like a pp, I also get a weird feeling in my stomach from FL tap water. After getting a stomach virus one year (which, I'm sure had nothing to do with the water, but the water that my system wasn't used to certainly didn't help after the fact!), we drink ONLY bottled water - just not worth the "risk". That means, we usually end up spending more on beverages at TS restaurants b/c we insist on bottled water with our meals. I usually skip the iced teas/lemonades/teas too, with the "better to be safe than sorry" mentality. That all being said, I have a VERY sensitive stomach, and the water never seemed to bother my DH.

This makes no sense. All the water including bottled water is "strange water" if it is not the water from your local tap. Also all of the soda is the same water only mixed with soda syrup.

I think I said that the tap water was not bad. I'm sure that bottled water is not "better" than tap, again I never said that it was.

Water from the tap is local to that area and tastes different and sometimes upsets my stomach, I don't know if it is the additives like Flouride or what. I find tap water to taste different than bottled water. I try to avoid the soda that is not bottled also.

Please people-have at the free water. I wish I could get the free water, it's only the fact that tap waters can sometimes upset my stomach and I would rather avoid that situation when I can.

Maybe someone caught up with them:thumbsup2...because I did get the free water there last month and there was no hassle. They were as kind as everyone else
