My family ate there in September, and we all really enjoyed it! You definitely WILL need to get an ADR. The food was good, and we could hear the movie clips fine. They aren't full movies, just clips of different ones. Our waitress was good, and made it fun. It was kind of dark to see what we were eating, but it wasn't a big deal. We all agreed that it was one of the best places we ate during our Disney vacation. popcorn::

We ate there December 9th for lunch. My husband and son got the double bacon cheeseburgers and I got the turkey sandwich with the melon cucumber salad. They also had shakes, I had unsweetened tea. (I am fluffy, they are not, so they can have the shakes, lol.) We go every time so next year we are trying a new MGM restaurant. But I think for burgers/sandwiches and shakes it is fine. They do not really play movies, but old time sci-fi promos. The atmosphere is really cool!

My family and I went in late October and really enjoyed it. We just had the basics for lunch -- onion rings, cheeseburgers, fries and milkshakes, but it was very enjoyable and a good break from a busy day at MGM. My DH really wanted to have a TS lunch at MGM because of bad experiences with CS meals there (Commissary - NEVER AGAIN!!!). It's a bit pricier than CS, but we really enjoyed it and would do it again.

ETA: This seems to be a pretty popular place, so ADR's would be a good idea.

From your signature, it appears that there are 6 of you which is perfect to fill up one car all by yourselves. :rotfl: We love Sci Fi. The burgers are not the best I've ever had but they are decent. The shakes are great and the glow cubes they put in the drinks will thrill your younger kids (and maybe even your teenagers--our kids in their 20's think they are great).

We have 3 grown sons, all married, plus DH and I. We ALWAYS eat here on every trip. It's just fun, a place unique only to Disney. And the movie clips are cheesy black/whites from old B Sci-Fi movies that are hysterical.

Sci-Fi is fun. IMO, more of a sandwich/burger place than an entree restaurant. It is not easy to have conversation. I found it funny how quiet it was in there! Everyone is entranced by the entertaining (and sometimes hypnotic) movie clips.

Up to 6 can fit into one car. Hope you have fun if you decide to go.

We ate there December 11 for lunch. It is a must do lunch and I agree almost completely with the above poster except our cheeseburgers were terrific! Add the onion rings (although I thought the portion got smaller) and it is a devine treat.

We love those cars. It is a ton of fun. We always ask to split up so we can sit in the cars and not the tables

Wait... If you are in a party of less than 6 they'll put another party WITH you?

Yes but it isn't an issue at all because the cars are 3 rows, two in a row facing forward like car seat. It is almost impossible to see or hear in front or behind you, my DD's sit in front and I reall have to almost stand up and lean over to get them to hear me and really check on what they are up to.

If you have small children bring crayons but be sure to take them with you. Almost every visit, except the last one, they didn't give crayons with the kids meal. The place is dimly lit like a night time drive in and the crayons are a safety hazard on the ground for the wait staff.

Our WDW tradition is that we always go to sci fi to eat. We went as a walk up on our honeymoon 5 years ago and have gone every visit since. The food isnt the best in WDW but the atmosphere is great. There is only me and DH so we always have to hitch-hike (sit in the back of a car with a party of 4) but we dont mind!

My only gripe is that the AC is always set to arctic - if you go take something to cover up with!

Would definitely go with the ADR, people were being turned away last time we were there in August and it wasnt a particularly busy time.

Enjoy your trip! :wizard:

Eww. Good to know. That'll be a skip since we'll never be more than 4. I don't care if you can't hear other people. Your area should be YOUR area. It's not a ride. Major creepiness.

Better steer clear of Biergarten and the Luau too then, seating is the same way at those. I also hear that the tables at LeCellier are pretty tight, almost like eating with others. Uncomfortable and inconvenient for some? Possibly. Creepy tho? Not so sure about that.

You can just do what DBf and I always do: request to sit in the front of a car at check-in. Its no big deal. They always allow us, never had a problem.

Although... a couple times families were seated behind us and were OBVIOUSLY ticked off that their kids could not sit in the front.

Oh well!

We went Thanksgiving week. It was just me and my 2 kids, but we got a car to ourselves. Tons of people were turned away while we waited to be seated-I felt sorry for the poor cm for having to repeat himself so much! We got a front car, and I put the kids in the front and sat behind them.

We were on the dining plan. ds10 got chips and dip, burger and fries, milkshake and sundae. I got onion rings, burger and fries, milkshake, and apple crisp. dd8 got hot dog (this is a huge kid's meal!), salad, and fries. She couldn't get a milkshake for a drink, but could for dessert, so I ordered a bottle of water and shake for her. The waitress was so nice and still brought her a small sundae for free. I had them put everything on my tray, and I divided up appys and put condiments on their food, then passed them up. We had no problems at all. We left a ton of food, but everything was good.

My kids loved the old clips. They didn't understand why there was no color, and coudn't believe anyone was scared by these movies!

Wow! Sounds like a must do for us- this will be our first time in MGM; we've always passed it up before now. This brings me to another question, which is more general and applicable maybe to all the TS meals. We won't be on a DDP, but paying OOP. Someone posted that the kids' meals are HUGE. My kids are very small for their age, and DON'T eat much at all. What are the rules for splitting meals-both for adults and kids. We don't like to waste food and try to order just enough, this helps our budget too. I've read elsewhere that they sometimes charge a split plate charge. Are they really doing this?

Any experience with this at SCI Fi or any other TS places in the parks??

Here is a link the the MGM dining options. About halfway down the page are pictures from Sci-fi where you can see the cars. Being up front is nice i have to say.

If there are 7 of you, they will prob want to direct you to the tables rather than the cars. When you check in, tell them you prefer the cars. If your kids are small, put the smallest 3 in the front seat.

With a party of 7, I would suggest making an ADR.

Have fun! :hippie:

It's perfectly acceptable "bar/pub food" in a very unique setting. We enjoyed our lunch there. In fact, I thought it one of the better values, as I recall lunch for 2A2C being around $50 with tip---that's entrees and soft drinks for the adults, plus kids meals. So, all in all not bad.

It's not the best meal you'll have at Disney, but it might be more fun that most.

I'm was glad to read the positive feedback on Sci-Fi on this thread. In many others, it seems to get a bad rap.

I made ADR there for Jan 5, the day I arrive. It will be our first meal in Disney and my two 11yr old boys are really looking forward to it!

In my experience, this has to be one of the very worst places to eat at WDW. Poor service and poorer food.

But to each his own I reckon.

Enjoy.
