Comment on Jaws ride

It had been 5 years since my last visit to USF. We always make sure we ride Jaws. I don't know if they changed a few things or not, but this time I was on the right side of the boat. Just before the ride ended, the part with the huge fire was so intense, I thought the right side of my body was going to burn to a crisp before they shut off the flame. It was so hot I jumped up and started crawling over the rest of my family to get away from it. A few people behind me were doing the same.

Has it always been this hot? OK, maybe not hot, but rather the amount of time they have the flames on. They warn you about the left side of the boat being the wet side, but they should make a warning about the right side being a glimpse into the fires of hell. If Jaws truly was in that fire, it is safe to say he is dead for good.

they brought back the steam effect on the right side, and toned down the fire on the left. it kind of evens it out.

We rode the Jaws ride several times last week and we noticed the same thing. If you sit on the left side of the boat you get the hot flames and if you sit on the right side, you get the hot steam. It wasn't so bad if you sit in the last row in the middle. I agree they should warn you about this before you get on it.

I like the fire adds to it if you asked me. Backdraft in LA gets a little hot though, just because it is all there is to the attraction. I'll skip that next time.

I have a question about the script for the ride. Our guide, upon first seeing the shark, muttered, "Oh $hit!" - is this part of the script? DMom went on Jaws another day, with a different guide, and he didn't us ethat word. I thought it was funny and am not offended, just curious.

Thats funny, actually that guy would probably have gotten in a lot of trouble if the higher ups knew about it. Its not part of the official script for sure. Maybe it should be! But they are trying to be kid friendly like Dis. I've ridden that ride a lot never heard that one before!

Wow thats too bad. I can't believe that they didn't offer to pay his medical bills. I've only done that once, didn't like it, it was probably hot water from the steam or something.

My mistake. I was looking for the action on the left side, not remembering anything special happening on the right. It all happened so suddenly I just assumed it was fire. My concern was getting away from the heat.

This is correct. Not even during HHN would a skipper be allowed to say $hit. Sure, they can see if it's mostly adults or if there are kids on the boat, but they can never be sure who will react in what way.

I know that this is off of the heat topic, but I just had to put my 2 cents in. I am 20 and yes, I had never been on Jaws until our previous trip in August. When it was always time for that ride, I would take the little one in our group and go play with him/her; or I would just sit there and wait. I am terrified of sharks & I didn't want to see it. But every time when my family would get off, I would make them tell me exactly what happened.

Well on this trip, we had two 5 yr olds and one 2 yr old (all were going to ride - so I couldn't use the excuse of playing with them). I had decided to just sit out, but my family told me that it was "time". The whole wait in line my stomach was in a complete knot. They had all plotted against me to try and make me sit by the edge where he comes up - but i squeezed myself in the middle of the boat. I did ride it, yes, but I never saw him. I kept my eyes open, and now I can tell you every little detail about my feet (since that was all that I was looking at). I felt the heat, him come up, water, and heard everyone get scared - but I am happy to say that I did not have to think about sharks for the rest of the day!! But now every time that we go back to US, I'm sure that I will have to ride it again - maybe one day I can work up the courage to just look at him.....but probably not!

Myself, my other half and our 15yr old son all thought the "shark" looked mechanical and fake. Personally I wouldn't bother with it even if there was no queue whatsoever, but anyone who hasn't "experienced the thrill" should obviously give it a go and make up their own minds as they are already in the park. I am more of a bungee and Sheikra person, but I do appreciate rides like splash mountain and even jimmy neutron too. Jaws obviously has a lot of fans out there, you could be one.
