My satelite guide last night said that "Commander and Chief" was the "Series" finale! PLEASE, PLEASE tell me this was a mistake and it should have said "Season" finale. I love this show and it will be a real loss if it does not return. :sad2:

Sorry to have to tell you but it is Series finale. DD and I both liked this show. Susan

Rob Lurie is trying to put together two television movies to finish up the series, but given how poor the ratings have been, it is very unlikely that that is going to happen. I believe we've seen the end of Commander-in-Chief.

can someone tell me what happened in the last 1/2 hour of last night's show? of course my dvr went crazy - thanks!

Definitely the SERIES finale as it's been cancelled and ABC decided to just show the remaining episodes that had already been filmed.

In our Sunday paper they said it was not being renewed for next year. So Seried Finale it is.

Does anyone know if there are any letter-writing campaigns going on for the show? We too, were very disappointed that they've cancelled this show.

Also sometimes other networks pick up shows and we get to see new episodes.......so I'm hoping maybe that will happen with this one.

I'm so sad that they cancelled the show. I really enjoyed it. I heard at first they give it that hiatus because it was aganist some really popular shows and the ratings were low, but when it came back there weren't enough people watching it. :guilty:

I never heard that they were going to do some TV movies. That would be nice. I'm curious to see what happens when re-election comes up..

I'm sad.

I haven't heard of any significant letter-writing campaign. There doesn't seem to have been enough interest in the show overall to warrant it, I suppose.

How in the world did I miss it last night!!!!!!!! For some reason, I thought it was on tonight!!! :guilty: Could someone describe what happened???

Oh wow! I didn't know that it's ending. I really liked it. It was no West Wing, but I still really liked it. I loved Gena Davis as the female president. And in no way was that a satisfactory ending with Dickie showing up at Templeton's place. Why would they even show that?

For those who missed last night's show, they were setting up for a town hall meeting with Templeton. They find out that some big-wig in Illinois dies and he was the major opponent of the ERA. So Mac wanted to use this opportunity to try to get it passed. They needed three more states so they were hoping for Illinois, Missouri and Florida since there's a female big-wig "in charge" of things down there. Mac talks with this female senator who doesn't want to pass the ERA, but Mac finally convinces her. Dickie on the other hand thinks it's bad for the pres to do this because she won't get re-elected. Mac says she doesn't care. If this is the only thing she accomplishes during her presidency, so be it. Dickie gets to the Florida senator and convinces her not to pass it as she surely won't get elected if she does.

Just before the town hall meeting Templeton decides to let it "slip" that he's running for President in order to steal Mac's thunder at the meeting. Meanwhile, Mac's daughter is supposed to meet her internet friend at the meeting. The guy is an intern that works for Templeton. They end up meeting with no drama or fanfare even though they inferred last week that something sinister was going on.

At the meeting, Mac finds out that Illinois did indeed pass the ERA which makes it look like it's going to happen. But then she finds out that Florida didn't. Somehow she figures out Dickey caused the Senator to change her mind so she fires him. He then shows up at Templeton's office offering his services.

The episode ends with Jim telling Mac that he would accept the VP position if offered. Then Mac leaves the town hall meeting to a huge crowd cheering her on.

Thanks for the recap Beth. :goodvibes

It sounds like the ending was anti-climatic. I guess that's b/c when the episode was shot, it wasn't intended to be the finale (but the show then got cancelled). Too bad.

Does anyone think that the show being cancelled has anything to do with the US's unwillingness to accept a female president yet? Dh thinks it does. I don't know if it's that, or just show writing that didn't appeal to the wider audience. :confused3

I just wanted to suggest that if you liked Commander In Chief, you would probably really enjoy The West Wing. It's over now, but you can rent six of the seven seasons on DVD. It's a GREAT show!

For those who missed it, abc.com is running episodes on line. Dunno if the latest one is up yet, but I think it will be.

I really enjoyed this show. I thought the acting was good and have come to be a big fan of Geena Davis. I wish one of the cable channels would pick it up.:earsboy:

Actually, I felt that the end of the episode was perhaps an excellent end for the series. It ended with things beginning to turn Mac's way. After being challenged by the old guard, she leaves the Town Meeting with crowds cheering her name.

I'm confident that has nothing to do with it. After all, The West Wing was renewed year-after-year despite the US's unwillingness to accept a Democrate for President. Rather, the show was cancelled, at the heart, because of logistical and managerial problems with the show, which prevented the show from finding a wide audience.

I am really, really very disapointed. This was quality TV and it made me feel like I did back in the days when West Wing first started. Although it was just a TV show and Gena Davis played a fictional character I believe it showed that it is possible for a woman to be strong enough to be the President of the United States. I too wish there were some where to write to get this show back on the air. Also, I thought I had heard the reason the show was on hiatus was due to a writers problem with the show.

It was more a matter of problems with the producers -- specifically the show runner -- than the writers.

ABC confirmed that the show was cancelled in public statements made on May 16, 2006, confirming earlier indications that stemmed from announcements on May 9, 2006.
