I have decided to get crafty and hang icicle lights from my entryway and living room ceiling for a winter wonderland. From everything I see on Pinetrest the best way to do this is using command hooks (I have smooth ceilings). But those suckers aren't cheap.

Does anyone know where I can purchase command hooks or fake hooks inexpensively? Does the Dollar Tree or somewhere similiar carry them?

Thanks!

Don't get anything other than command hooks.

I got a knockoff at Dollar Tree last year and ended up having to repair and repaint a wall after I took down the lights - totally pulled off some of the sheet rock and messed up the paint.

I pick them up when I see them on sale which isn't often.

my dollar tree does, just be careful, I have had them just fall off the wall at times, or pull off a huge chunk of the wall while removing..... sometimes a bit of scotch tape works better if used carefully.

When my dd was moving into her dorm, I would do to Joann and Michaels everyweek, and get a big package, with one of their 30-40% coupons, whichever they had at that time.

I haven't checked, but maybe Amazon has them for less? I'd also look into Joann Fabrics/Michaels/Hobby Lobby -- they usually have 40% off coupons all the time, and that would knock some of the price off (of course their price might be a lot higher than Walmart's to start, I'm not sure).

Another option would be the blue Sticky Tac stuff that my daughter is required to use in her college dorm room.

I had the same experience with the ones I purchased from our Dollar Store (in Canada). The picture I hung fell off the wall in the middle of the night, scared my ds to death, and took off paint. They were the Command brand, so I'm wondering if the Dollar store ones are rejects they won't put in other stores or something.

Not rejects -- old. Leftover stock routinely ends up in dollar stores, and when it comes to adhesives, age is not your friend.

If you get them at the dollar store, use the hooks, but buy new Command sticky strips from another store. The strips alone are a lot cheaper at regular retail.

That makes perfect sense, and that is a great suggestion. Thank you. :)

I've had command hooks pull the paint off walls and doors in my home. Just be prepared to touch up areas if you do use them.
