Hi everyone!
Changed resorts this a.m. and decided not to leave the mini laptop at the BC baggage area. Brought it with me in my Cheer Squad bag while I await DH's finish in the Goofy.
Super nice set-up they have here with this for spectators and family/friends of racers.
There are tables and chairs, couch type chairs, TVs, characters for photo ops, kiddie corner, restrooms etc. There is also food like muffins, danish, eggs, bacon, potatoes, and fruit. Racers got started this a.m. with coffee, Propel, water, bagels, fruit etc.
The man in charge here is named Joe and he is very nice and friendly and helpful. A lady named Valerie helped in at the info desk yesterday because our bus driver got lost (along with many drivers yesterday) trying to get here. Evidently they closed the wrong road off or at the wrong time or there was poor communitcation between drivers (maybe Mears, not WDW!) and whoever handles transportation.
So, yesterday, I never made it here to the tent. Very frustrating since it cost big bucks IMHO.
The officaial books and race info said transportation for spectators stopped between 5:30 and 7 a.m. The buses stopped at 5 for the Dolphin and related resorts. I got to the bus stop at 5. They said they woulod not be leaving until 7 a.m. We found one paper that said 5 a.m.--everything else said 5:30. No matter, even at 7, it seems buses got lost. Ours actually went off park property! Geez. I tried walking to the start but hit dead ends there. It was a long and exhausting day.
However, by the time I got to the Race Retreat tend, my racer (DH) had finished the 1/2 and so had many others. People were happy and excited and still going on adrenaline!
They were tired and hurting and happy! It was great to see and remembering how they were feeling brought a smile to my face.
I saw several DIS W.I.S.H. shirts and suppose I will today also when they start coming in (If they aren't here already!). My DH will be slow but (hopefully) steady. He had pnemonia (sp) just over Christmas and probably should not be racing at all. He's an official Ironman though so he wasn't about to withdrawal even though I suggested it.
So congrats to all who race/walked the 2009 WDW marathon and 1/2 marathon.
Be proud!
Be happy!
You did it! Good job.
