Coming from PacNW- Fly, Drive, Rail or Cruise?

When you took the train, did you have kids? Were the seats nice enough that you could have slept in them? presumably there are more people in seats than have rooms so I assume they do okay?
I'm a bit nervous doing an overnight in a common space with a 3 year old especially because I haven't seen the train layout.
I wonder if there is any video on youtube? hmmmm :confused3:[/QUOTE

Check out the Amtrak website. They have lots of good info and virtual tours of the sleeping accomodations as well as other information that you may find useful. Even if it doesn't end up being what you chose for this trip, it may be something to consider in the future as it is a fun way to travel.

I haven't taken the Coast Starlight line, but on my last trip from Portland to Minneapolis on the Empire Builder.

We have taken the Empire Builder twice from Seattle to Chicago and love it!! Beautiful scenery and such a fun way to travel!!

I have taken the cruise down from Vancouver to LA that was a 5 nighter on Princess. We then spent 4 days in the parks and took a flight home. What I discovered was that it probably would have been more relaxing to do the DL part first and then take the cruise home. It was hard after 5 days of indulging myself with food and sleeping in to transition to high energy, semi-commando, early morning entries and being on the go all day long.

Just sayin' ;)

The cruise sounds awesome! And for the price I think I'd be all over it. Well worth it, even if it were a bit more than driving or flying.
