I really like movies based on comic books. My favorites are x-men and Iron Man.
Does anyone have any suggestions of others to rent? Or some that aren't based on comic books -but have a similar feel? Action adventure with maybe a little romance thrown in?
Thanks!!

Well, that sort of depends on what you haven't seen. Have you seen Watchmen? That was very true to the story.

Watchmen indeed! Don't forget that THOR should be out soon and they are in pre-production on The Green Lantern (my childhood hero) right now as well as The Green Hornet.

Fantastic Four (the second one was a bit of a dud but the effects were great).
Spiderman 1-3 (four is in the works)
Batman (the EARLY one with Michael Keaton. FABULOUS!!)

I haven't seen watchmen -how is it if you are not familiar with the books?
Thanks everyone

Watchmen is pretty much as close as you can get to someone literally translating a comic, scene for scene, from the source material onto the big screen. However, Watchmen, as a comic book story, is not for everyone.. It is a graphic novel. It is a dark political drama which just happens to surround a bunch of nutcases who like to dress up in cloaks and fight crime (and one omnipotent naked guy, but I digress). For those who are fans, I heard no (or few) complaints, and those that existed were minor (More Bubastis!). For those completely unfamiliar with the book, it was generally enjoyed.

Sin City was another good adaptation that kept the true comic feel through the movie. Once again, a dark and violent graphic novel.

I've liked other comic book movies...Batman (both the Michael Keaton original and the more recent Dark Knight versions), Spiderman (love Toby Maguire), etc. But Watchmen and Sin City are art.

Thanks everyone -I am making a list!!

The Crow with Brandon Lee has always been a favorite. It's a little more 'heavy' than XMen and Iron Man though! Spiderman is great too!

XMen Origins: Wolverine was very good! I believe it comes out on DVD in September.

I just saw the latest version of The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it.

I'll add "Road to Perdition".

It was originally a graphic novel by Max Allen Collins, and was made into a very good movie with big name stars: Tom Hanks, Daniel Craig, Jude Law, and in his last on-screen appearance, Paul Newman.

I loved Watchmen and didn't know anything about it before I saw it. So big :thumbsup2 from me!

Blade I&II....avoid III
Hellboy esp #2 which is fantastic.
Sin City
300

Mystery Men (very funny)

You could also try the animated versions of Batman, Justice League Unlimited, and Wonder Woman.

Comic (or comic-esque) movies I have enjoyed:

Watchmen
Hellboy I & II
Spiderman series
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Superman (I - IMO, the franchise went downhill from there)
The Crow
Blade (first is the best, downhill from there)
The Hulk (the second attempt, not the one with the radioactive poodles)
the various Batman films (well, the first one, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The others are skippable)
Mystery Men
The Fantastic 4
Spawn (though I almost put this one in the category below)
Iron Man
X men franchise
V for Vendetta
The Shadow

Ones which missed the mark (IMO)
The Hulk (first one - Ang Lee's vision)
the various Punisher movies
Ghost Rider

I know I am missing at least a few more, but I don't feel like digging through my DVD collection right now to find them.

Thanks guys -I really appreciate your time!

Mystery Men was a total hoot.

I don't really think of Mystery Men as a comic book movie...perhaps and anti-comic book movie....but yes, a hoot. DH and I still quote this movie to one another all the time.

"You must be like the wolf pack, not like the six pack."

I also want to second Deb on Road to Perdition. Thanks for pointing out that comic books are not always about men in colored tights.

/ZephyrHawk bought her DH a Blue Lantern T-shirt for his birthday
//It was his favorite gift
///He was more impressed with the cruddy plastic "Black Lantern" ring he got free from his comic shop with his latest issue of "Darkest Night"
:sad2:
