Come out, come out of Lurk-dom!

Hello, first time poster in here, but longtime lurker of the DIS boards and more recently the Aussie section.

My partner and I emigrated from the UK to NZ 6 months ago, and we now live in Rotorua. No idea when we'll get to WDW next :( Flights are expensive from this side of the world and it's a long way to travel! Reading the boards keeps the Disney magic alive in our household though!

Are there many other Kiwi's who visit the boards?

Hi Karen,

There are a few Kiwis around here.

Were you a DLP visitor when you lived in the UK?
We fly out to Dubai on Wednesday (3 sleeps!) to start our European Vacation! 16 days till we arrive at DLP! :smickey:

Hello, I had an account here a long time ago but had to create a new one as I forgot my password. I'm from Brisbane and am married with an 18 year old daughter. Obviously, we are Disney addicts. We have been to DL twice and WDW twice and Tokyo once. Our last trip to WDW was in September last year. We stayed at POR for 14 nights and it was incredible. I have made a lot of friends in FB groups so we had a lot of fun meet ups etc. The flight kills me. My hubby and daughter sleep but I can't. Anyway, I want to go back next year but hubby wants to go to Aulani and DL. So atm that is the plan, though no doubt that will change a few times before we book anything :)

I visited DLP when I was a kid, but not as an adult. We did look at going a few times, but as it is so expensive we decided to spend a little bit more and go to WDW instead...that's how expensive DLP is! When we visit the UK next we'd love to stop for a few days in DL, as we've never been and would love to visit!

Enjoy your European vacation and DLP!

I've had a busy week as well with another busy week ahead of me. Today I need to do something with this messy house so naturally I'm on the net :D
No vacay here either :charac2:

Still waiting patiently (not) for dates to open for flights and hotels for Dec 2016 so I can really get into trip researching.

Hope your dates open up soon.

DH and I keep going back and forwards over holiday plans for next year. We're up to 6 different options now. Everything from Europe, North America, Asia and/or Australia. If we could only pick one, I'd be able to plan!!!

Choosing and settling on a place is the hardest part I think. We chop and change so many times and always end up in America anyway.

Plenty of Aussies at WDW the last few weeks. If any Aussie Dis'ers find themselves amongst the other tens of thousands of guests in the Magic Kingdom in the coming weeks, please stop by Adventureland. This Aussie will need all the strength she can get to survive the last three weeks of my International Program. You'll find me flying magic carpets or waking up the tiki birds, mostly early mornings until the mid afternoon (I'm blessed with the shift seniority that the other internationals lack haha)

Yes miss.potatohead there are lots of Aussies and NZers at the moment over there it seems - wish it was us too! I can give you a virtual wave hello  Will you miss it do you think when the Program is over?
PIO the world is your oyster.....
DH has got keen about a road trip around Iceland now but no plans til we see how Dad goes early next year - he is going downhill fast :sad1: See how the year pans out and still hope to get away somewhere Sept or Oct.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Wendy :sad1:

Is everyone ready for Christmas? I am definitely not! We're going to Perth to visit my family, haven't even thought about what I'm going to pack. And haven't even started on presents for DH or my parents... Then straight away I have to also come up with birthday present ideas for Dad and DH! Feeling a little overwhelmed, but at least I don't have to do any cooking or anything ;)

I was diagnosed with a stress fracture in my foot last week, and am not allowed to do any weight bearing exercise for 3-4 weeks (including walking for exercise, still allowed to walk from A-B). A bit concerned about how I'm going to work off all the Christmas feasting this year :rotfl2:

So sorry to hear about your foot-make sure you do what the Docs say. After being so active it will be hard though if Perth gets its run of hot days it will easier. Are gift cards too much of a cop out as easy gifts especially if you have to carry them? I struggle with gifts every year though my dad is easy as he likes "little, tiny" anything! I got all my Xmas shopping done early (and DDs birthday) as I hate the crush. Safe travels and enjoy the time with your family.

I will certainly NOT be heading to any shopping centres to do my last minute shopping - it will all be done online, meaning yes vouchers. I think I'll get my parents a voucher for their favourite running shop, and maybe an experience of some description for DH? Will have to look into that one!

I plan to follow doctor's orders to the letter with my foot, as it will be really touch and go as to whether I'll be able to do the Oxfam walk - want to give myself the best chance!

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Wendy. It's sad when our loved ones start to show the signs of ageing.

I'm on a countdown to my UK trip - 3 more sleeps! Feeling very nervous about it, as I haven't flown OS on my own before and have never been to the UK. Worried I'm forgetting something...

And worried about jet lag. I land at 8:30 Sunday night and am supposed to be at work at 8:30 Monday morning.... we will see how that goes LOL

That would be perfect for me! Just don't allow yourself to sleep on the plane. You'll be nice and tired from your travels and should find it easy to get to sleep at that time of night. You'll have a full night's sleep and will be forced to wake up at a decent time on Monday morning, getting you right back into local time.

Don't be nervous about flying on your own either. I'm not going to lie - the waiting around at the airport and the long flight aren't much fun on your own, but there's nothing to be worried about. In fact, sometimes I find it easier on my own not being distracted by DH etc. I can just concentrate all my attention on finding whatever it is I need to find. A few tips though. Make sure you take a bathroom stop at the last possible minute before you leave the house. You don't want to have to do this at the airport before you check your luggage! Also, when you check in, make sure you request a window/aisle seat (depending on your preference - I prefer aisle so I can be free to get up whenever I like since I don't sleep). If they don't have your first preference available, make sure they know that either one is preferable to the middle seat! I also find it easiest to thoroughly research my transport options and possibly even study a map of the airport before flying (or on the plane - there's usually a map of major airports in the airline magazine). It makes it a lot easier when you arrive in a completely strange place if you at least have some idea of where you're going and how to get there. Although it does make things easier arriving in an English speaking country :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful time on your trip :goodvibes

Zosha probably you have now left but wishing you a safe enjoyable trip. I agree with Zanzibar, it can be a bit daunting but overall I quite enjoy flying solo as its just me to look after and I can do things a bit different than when I have DH with me. I agree I research beforehand arrival airport and how to get to whatever I need (be it taxi, train or bus) to reduce stress.

Coming to you from the Virgin Lounge - on my way to Perth for Christmas! We were allowed to leave work at lunch time, so I was super dooper early and still have another 4 hours here! However, my laptop is going to run out of batteries pretty soon. Just wanted to wish all the DISers a very Merry Christmas!
