Come on, Disney! Step it up already.

Places I think Disney needs to Step Up or already missed the mark:

1. Soarin' - this is the same movie DCA opened with over 10 years ago. It has nothing to do with Florida and could have been and needs to be redone.

2. Test Track - old or new, it would be nice to get something that doesn't break down daily.

3. Everything else in Future World...(Living Seas can stay, but barely).

4. Kali River should be a minimum twice as long as it is. The queue is longer than the ride.

5. Avatarland or whatever it will be...trying to restrain judgement until it opens, but I hated the movie and its not a family friendly movie.

6. LMA - just take it out. It is/was a hit in Paris, but minimal repeat value.

7. Backstage Tours - just take it out. Either make this all Pixar or something, but put Catastrophe Canyon out of its misery.

8. Indiana Jones - either given me Temple of the Forbidden Eye like in DLR or give me more Star Wars.

9. TGMR - now its a sentimental favorite to me, but I recognize it needs updating.

10. Sounds Dangerously/American Idol - do people (non Orlando natives) really go to these?

(Basically just redo the majority of DHS...)

11. Tomorrowland - everything needs at least a refurbishment if not change out all together. I love Buzz, but he's worn out. Leave the People Mover, but turn some lights on. Space Mtn - fine. Speedway - please update it before we all choke to death on the fumes.

12. Fantasyland - Belle has amazing technology, but I think hurts for repeat value. Little Mermaid - meh. Seems like there could be better technology used without losing a classic dark ride feel.

13. Monorail - new resorts have increased and will be increasing the number of people using it, but the currently monorails aren't being updated. A skin to promote a movie doesn't count.

14. Quit buidling dang resorts. Enough already.

15. Get rid of the dining plan or at least "free" dining promostions. I know some folks love it, but I long for the menus and quality pre DDP. If you want to entice folks with free - give them a gift card.

16. Quit building dang resorts.

Oh - can't believe I forgot Philharmagic...its in bad shape. Most of the films are past due for updates.

Years ago, I remember starting a thread about how the next thing Universal should do is add Middle Earth... I'm going to try and find it!

I agree Disney should "step it up" but in a way they are always adding new things. Look at what Disney has now, 4 parks and tons of hotels and even a Downtown... oh and the 2 waterparks, mini golf, etc....

However, they should be working on more rides at DHS and Animal Kingdom. Those parks desperately need more rides. The new fantasyland is great and when the 7 dwarves coaster opens up it'll be amazing, but they gotta get going with the parks lacking in rides.

More power to Universal if they get LOTR's going....

I will admit to not reading this thread, but I wanted to point out that there is no way Christopher Tolkien will allow this. Although Disney would be even less likely to get those rights than Universal, because J. R. R. did not like the Disney company.

From our trips we have gone to both and these are my observations

Universal parks seem to have shorter wait times and the parks are much more relaxed.

Universal is building more attractions to keep guests occupied and Disney World is building a more sophisticated system to reserve rides in advance (IMHO this is a complete waste of Money and the parks would be better off if they built more attractions)

I used to prefer Disney vacations but my wife loves Sea World and Universal more as they are more relaxing and aren't as sparse.

I think the magic kingdom is a great park and we will return to it but I have reservations spending the money Disney is demanding for Epcot which has shrunk in the past few years, Test Track is new but Wonders of Life is gone, Imagination only has 1 ride and a show from the 80's, Future world is Future world of 1982 when the park opened. They used to have fun shows and things that are gone.Epcot used to be my favorite park but its been scaled down so much its sad. (I was a CP at Epcot a few years ago and the cutbacks are crazy). World Showcase is fun but I have been to almost every country and I would rather visit the country than a restaurant and gift shop. I really wish they would update the few shows and the 2 rides need to be updated.

I think Universal is stepping up their game and Disney Should and needs to respond or more people will jump ship. I know our extended family is planning a trip next year and the kids would rather go to Universal again than DW. They are 2-8 which I would call Disney's prime target, but they liked the shorter lines and thought the Dr Seuss land was awesome.

I think Disney is great but they haven't done that much in the past few 10 years.

By the way, what people should not be looking at is total admission numbers (Disney bets UOR in that by a landslide) but by percent increase or decrease in attendance each year. This was down for MK while up for UOR, though I don't know the exact numbers. Just something to keep in mind.

While I like both parks equally, I think its time for Disney to "catch up" to UOR. I see no problem with saying that. How does one come to the conclusion that this statement means I dislike WDW in anyway. If I disliked Disney so much, why would I be planning a June trip to WDW, August trip to DLR and D23, and a day-trip to Disneyland Paris when we finally visit Europe for the first time later this year (maybe).

I totally disagree with this statement. I was in Epcot less than a month ago, and did not notice much that needed some love. Malestrom does need help, but that is the only thing I can think of. I don't think you will find many that disagree that Imagination needs to be changed, but that is not something needed because of neglect. But because the ride is just boring.

The last time I went, just a few things I noticed:
Soarin. The movie crackled, like an old 1970's film strip. Not ac.ceptable in an age when most people have hd in their home.

The inside of imagination is a disaster because the ride now stinks. The actual building, was filthy, as if they gave up on cleaning the exterior.

The living seas. Tanks were dirty, inside and out. The rugs were soaked with water the last 2 times I went there. The fact that they took out seabase, but left the descent tube, which now has no purpose. My kids asked what it was for.

Maelstrom.

Energy adventure is so run down it needs to be put out of its misery or completely overhauled. Not to mention how old and outdated the film is.

Innoventions was also dirty, and out of date.

The fact that things were just so rundown and dirty looking got me, since Disney has always been meticulous with their cleaning and upkeep. :confused3:
Unless all of that has been suddenly transformed in the last year.. I'll see next week.

We'll have to wait and see won't we? ;)

Possibly..But he was also initially adamant about the books NOT being turned into movies and he allowed it..Currently rumors, ( and they are out there)are that the Tolkien family was impressed with how Universal brought Harry Potter to life, JK Rowling was also rumored to be involved with discussions since she was thrilled with how Universal pulled off harry Potter while allowing her to retain creative control .I think it is quite possible it may happen. In fact, in Jan of 2012, on vacation at Universal, my family and I were surveyed..We were asked a few things about food, entertainment and 3 very interesting things..1) How do we feel about expansion of Harry Potter? ( now happening) 2) How do we feel about Transformers coming to Florida? ( now happening) and 3) How do we feel about an area themed to Lord of the rings /Middle Earth? So I don't think it is that impossible

You are right about one thing, JRR Tolkien Despised didn't like Walt Disney at all

You know, I've been on Soarin' probably 20 times in the last three years, and every time I couldn't help but notice the irony that the last part of it is a flyover of Disney LAND.

I don't know if it still is, but I think the title is "Soarin' Over California" in DCA. I think because we rode it in DCA before it came to Epcot, we were particularly disappointed that WDW didn't use something specific to them or at least different. The whole aviator theming really adds something to it there. Add to that it is often a walk on or close to it in DCA and the whole Soarin Stampede in WDW just seems silly.

The ride was "borrowed" from Disneyland in 2005. Each of the Disney parks "borrowed" an attraction from each of the others as part of that year's promotion. Soarin' was so popular that they kept it.

So, yeah, it's not ironic that the last scene is Disneyland.

I always thought it made sense. If we were in Florida and were soaring to another location, why not DL? It would make less sense if we were in WDW and soared to...WDW. JMO

They have the same ride at California Adventure in California and you soar to Disneyland there as well. It was meant to be all about California.

Yeah, it is. I'm in Disney WORLD, soarin' over a scene from a Disney LAND attraction because they were too cheap to make another version of the borrowed attraction.

But moving on....doesn't that new Captain EO attraction just blow everybody away?

All this talk of Soarin' being from California really got me thinking that they SHOULD change the movie into something else. Hopefully they will make it 3D and make something really cool. I don't care if they keep the same simulation/motion/movement but just change the movie and make it a step up from DCA's Soarin'. How awesome for that to be 3D in your face!

I was afraid this might happen. Of course this is all complete speculation for the moment. The Tolkein family have (IMO rightly) never been known to just jump into these kinds of mass market things. They have historically been very reticent. So it is not outside the realm of possiblity that they might dig their heels in and simply refuse.

I have heard that they are very stingy with rights so....how the heck did Denny's end up with a special menu and did you see the ads? They were so stupid and low class...how was the family ok with that but not happy with the movies?
