Come cry with me-- flood in basement

:( Cindy, so sorry to hear about your loss, I can't imagine how you feel, we are sending our best to you, and a little pixie dust to help heal the wounds.

So sorry to hear about the flood damage. I hope that things work out and that you can salvage some or most of your photos and memorabilia.

another update...

the plumber left at 930 ish... the sump pump was working, and we had to just swish water around the little bit that was lurking here and there.

We do have most of our pictures in a huge rubbermaid tote thing..only the wedding ones were separate.. why? I guess to distinguish them from "other pictures". Seemed like a good idea at the time

:confused:

We now have fans going in there to get rid of the yuck smell, and tomorrow will be the go through and sort out stuff.

My washer and dryer look pretty funny... I have all sorts of pictures drying on the top! Engagement pictures... We got formal ones done, and just stuff...

It was challenging, we had so much water to clear out the utility sink was taking a long time to drain, (Jeff was using the shop vac he ran out and got)

So... he took off the side door, positioned the shop vac with the attachements on the basement steps... and just let it go for a while... and when it filled up out it went.. I did a bucket up and down filled up many times...

Im so grateful that the furnace didn't go.. It was getting close for a while. The water was getting really close... and I was worried there for a moment.

I'm so grateful the seller gave us the home warranty.. they included after we agreed on price. She (seller) paid for it... so the plumbers true bill was $275 or something like that... we only had to pay $50 for the initial service call.. the rest was FREE!

The home warranty itself cost $350.

So sorry about your basement flooding.:( Sounds like you had a long day.

Boy do I feel your pain Cindy, everytime I meltdown or bad rain comes, we always get a flood in the basement, in part because dh bought the wrong type of pump the last time with the wrong kind of float, it would go on sometimes and other times you would have to shake it to turn on. I lost the washing machine and dryer when hurricane floyd hit us and we got 10" of water in the basement, just last year I finally went out and got another sump pump, this time the right one and we haven't had a problem since.
If you have flooding insurance in your homeowners insurance, it should cover, the problem is not too many companies offer it unless you specifically request it , and some of them won't even sell it to you even if you request it.
Good luck with it. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}
