Combining Resale with Direct DVC Points

I currently own two contracts direct from DVC. 160 pts at Animal Kingdom and 100 pts at Aulani.

1. If I want book a week at Aulani at the 11 month mark and need more points, can I use some of the AK points or would have to barrow more Aulani pts since I would not be able to use the AK pts until the 7 month mark?

2. If I book a trip a new DVC resort (i.e. the Rivera) with my AK/Aulani pts at the 7 month mark (I know not likely to have any availability) and don't have enough direct DVC points could I use resale pts to complete this booking?

For example, Pete... you purchased 75 pts direct through DVC and the rest was resale. 75 pts is not going to go very far at the Rivera. With the new DVC policies on resale points will you ever be able to stay at the Rivera combining your direct and resale pts?

Bummer. Definitely seems like a down side for resale. I know it's cheaper but that hurts if you can't combine them when staying at a new resort.

That was Disney's whole plan in creating those restrictions. Make resale seem a little less worth it.
While I don't blame them for trying to stack the deck in their favor, I hate what that does to people trying to sell Riviera points.
As it stands right now, resale is still the way to go for sure. The 14 original resorts are all great, and if you bought post January resale, you will love staying at "only" them.

They have 14 resorts to stay at. Many with locations that are difficult to beat. Many people visiting Disney stay on cash at the same resort every year or only move around between a couple.

Question 2: Yes, if you buy additional resale points at anywhere other than Riviera, you will not be able to use them at Riviera. However, this only applies to Riviera. If you do the same thing at say BLT, you could use your direct and resale points from any of the other 14 resorts.

Right now - the resale restrictions are really only a big deal for Rivieria resale owners. All other owners just get locked out of Riviera if they buy resale. 10..20.30...years from now the affect will be much more dramatic for resale owners as the original 14 contracts end and there are more new resorts with the restrictions in place.

No...but you could buy 24 one time use points to add to your 260 (+ borrowing). Also, you might have luck at Riviera with a 2020 waitlist since everytime DVC declares new rooms/points waitlisted owners can get in.
