Combining cash and points?

When booking the Disney Collection (e.g. Disneyland or the Disney Cruise Line), can you use a combination of cash and points? Can you for instance use points for Sun-Thurs and pay cash for Fri-Sat? Can you use points for one person on the cruise and pay cash for the others?

We were told by our DVC salesperson that you indeed can use points for Sun - Thurs, and $$ for Fri -Sat.

On the Disney Cruise, we have used points for 2 adults, and paid $$ for our two children.
