Combine MGM and AK?

We're going for 7 nights, and I haven't bought plane tickets yet. I'm waiting for the fares to go down, although I'm starting to think it won't happen.

At any rate, there's a very good chance that our flight on the last day will be early enough that we won't make it to the parks. That means I have two choices:

1) Extend the stay by 1 night, which gives us two days in each park.

2) Plan to go to MGM and AK one time each, then spend an additional day split between the two parks.

I've never been to AK and I haven't been to MGM since just after TOT opened. If you've already spent a full day at these parks in the off-season, is a half day enough? Does it matter that both parks have relatively short hours?

Thanks for any advice you can pass along. :-)

I've never spent the whole day at AK. In fact, if I have to miss a park, that's the one I'll miss. I'm assuming that you are staying on-site. I'm one of those people that like to split my day between two different parks. I go to MK for the early entry, stay until around lunchtime. Go back to my resort, eat and relax for an hour or so. THen head out to another park. I usually visit MK several times on each trip. MGM in one that I go to for about 3 hrs. at a time. Usually go for the early entry day and then a different evening for the night-time shows Epcot, Futureworld, is doable (for me) in 1/2 day. But World Showcase is a different story. I like to visit there several times each visit. I would do AK in the morning, then World SHowcase. MGM in the morning, MK in the morning, Epcot in the morning. Since WS doesn't even open until 11 a.m., gettitng there at lunchtime is no problem. Then, if you really love AK, you have several afternoons that you could go back. I tend to try to do my 'must do's' in the morning. THat way, I can go back to what I may have missed on other visits in the afternoon. Going off-season is great since you have fewer/shorter lines to wait in. Yes, the parks close earlier but that's mostly MK. MGM usually doesn't close much before 8-8:30. AK is closed by 5-6, World Showcase 9. I would be relaxed and not worry about what I'm missing. 2 days for each park might be overdoing it a bit. Try the 1/2 days. When I did the full day in the same park I felt overwhelmed in the evenings!!!

Depending on the time of year and how much/little you want to experience, it is doable, but I think you'll be short changing yourself. AK is definetly a half day park but MGM has emerged into a full day park and so this again all depends on the time of year you go(crowd levels & park hours) and what you want to see.

That's what we did for our last day. We had to leave WDW by 3:30 to get to the airport for our flight. We'd already seen both parks, and we talked about what things we wanted to do 1 more time before we left. We ended up going to MGM at opening to ride ToT and RnRC, then go to MK for the rest of the time. It worked out fine (except the leaving part--we hated that! :) ).

Since you are already going to spend one whole day in each park, you can easily split another day and do both again. Just plan to go back and hit the highlights on your "hopping" day. And IMHO, you should start your "hopping" day at MGM at opening, so you can make sure you hit ToT and RnRC one more time! :teeth:
