Combine hotel stay and points?

We are a bit late to the game and trying to stay for Thanksgiving week. We tried to rent points to stay in a villa but it is sold out for some of the days. However, when I go to the regular Disney site I can reserve it there (at twice the cost). Is there any way to reserve the days that are sold out through the regular Disney path and rent points for the other days? Would it be the same room if we reserved the same class? Are the dvc rooms on different floors?

You could do that, but they would be separate reservations. If points are available to rent for Monday and Tuesday, you do a cash reservation through Disney for Wednesday, and you rent points for Thursday and Friday - that's three separate reservations you will need to manage and have linked together. It's not as big of a deal for Aulani as it would be at WDW since there's no ADRs linked.

You would not be guaranteed to keep the same room, but you can make that request. They will try to keep you in the same room but you'd have the possibility of being moved. They should be able to tell you when you arrive on day one whether you'll need to move at all.
