Does the Columbia stay in port or does it acutally sail around the river like the Mark Twain?

Also...do the Davy Crockett Canoes run on some kind of track? DH was saying that they had to otherwise the canoes would be all over the river with so many inexperienced paddlers on board.

yes the columbia sails and leaves the dock. no the canoes are not on a track, just people power. . .

DSIL has only been to DL once (27 years ago), and one of his most favored memories is of watching the Columbia sail by as he stood on the river's edge.

The only other memories he has are of the "monster" in the Matterhorn and of the Submarine ride.

I wonder if it would be appropriate to get him a 1st time visitor badge since it's been so long and he really doesn't remember much of anything.

The Columbia generally only sails on busy days (like weekends or during the summer), or when the Mark Twain is being refurbished. During the off-season even on weekends it's rarely out.

The canoes are entirely people-powered - and they are NOT on a track. They are really quite stable, though. The CMs do a short training session at the beginning of each canoe ride to get guests to hold their paddles correctly and at least attempt to paddle in unison.

Really? Did things change this year? We always go in the off season, usually staying Sunday night thru Thursday night, and we've seen it sailing around and go on it for a ride almost every year. I sure hope it didn't change because we love sailing on the Columbia.
