Next month I'm going to be taking a little road trip. I need help finding a good hotel. I am not looking for anything expensive, just something clean and where I won't be afraid to go to sleep.

Can anyone help me with these cities?

Columbia, SC

Mt. Pleasant, SC - the place I will be visiting here is off of Johnny Dodd Blvd

Atlanta, GA - the place I will be visiting here is off of N. Highland Ave.

Birmingham, AL

Thanks!

We've stayed at the Hampton Inn in Mount Pleasant twice and were very pleased with it. If you like ribs, I highly recommend eating at Sticky Fingers.

Thanks for the bump Dan! :D

Thanks tar heel! I've heard so much about Sticky Fingers that it is on the top of my list. I can't wait to finally try them.

Let's try this again with a change to the subject line. Guess I need to do something interesting around here so I can start attracting more attention. :p

Courtyard by Marriott Northlake is in the North Highland Area of Atlanta. I have neve stayed there, but I have never been disappointed in the Courtyard chain of hotels.

Thanks Mimi! Atlanta is the area that scares me the most since I always end up at least driving through a really bad area around there.

We stayed at the Baymount Inn outside of B'ham - it was nice. It was on the highway around the city - I'm totally blanking on the name. There was a bunch of restaurants and a Target off the same exit.

Birmingham - Off I-65 on Oxmoor Road there are several hotels - two holiday inns, a red roof inn, a howard johnsons, etc. You can't miss them. I believe there is also a days inn.

Not sure where you are going in Birmingham, but I-65 is the main highway going north/south. There are tons of hotels you'll see as you drive through. If you want to let me know what part of B'ham you're going to, I could drill it down further for you.
------------------------------------

Atlanta - Where on N. Highland? There's a Clermont Inn on Ponce de Leon, The Highland Inn at 644 North Highland, Wyndham Atlanta Midtown and Four Seasons if you want a little pricier.

You can go to mapquest, type in the address of where you will be and once the map comes up, underneath it in the business part type in hotel. It will show you all the hotels near that address.

In Birmingham, don't stay downtown. The Inverness area is safe (Hwy 280) and my hometown area (Trussville) is very safe. In Inverness, there's a Hilton, Amerisuites (it's new), Candlewood Suites, and many other popular hotels. All are very close to the The Summit (wonderful shopping!)

Trussville is NE of Birmingham, off of I-59. There is a new Jameson Inn and a Hampton Inn.

I can give you advice on other areas of B'ham also, but these are my top 2.

Have a safe trip!

This is the Hwy 280/Inverness area.

I would not recommend the Oxmoor/Homewood area.

Jipsy: It's gotten rough in recent years.

I would check tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews.

What part of Columbia are you looking for. I live in Columbia but will try to help you stay near the right side of town for where you'll be. If I forget to check back on this site, pm me.

The Oxmoor Rd area also doesn't have many great eating facilities around it either. We've found that out the hard way.:) Good luck with the hotel hunting.

Is there a reason why you must be in North Highland in Atlanta?

Atlanta proper is a big city and yes, it has it's "bad" places. The outskirts are very different.

You might try Emory, there is a beautiful Emory Inn and Conference center there that you might consider.

Thanks everyone!

I have found plenty of hotels on the Internet, but it really does help to get some first-hand info. When you see them on-line, just don't really know.

Jipsy I don't know the exact place that I will be visiting yet in Birmingham. I'm still waiting to find out. In Atlanta I'll be visiting 816 N Highlands Ave.

Pugdog007 as soon as I get an address I'll let you know and see what you suggest.

Donnajon I'll send you a PM.

Robin I do not have to stay in that area, that is just where I am going to be visiting while there.

Again, thanks everyone!

Well it's been 7 years since I lived there pugdog  The Holiday Inn right off the interstate used to be fine.

Are you sure? You said Trussville is NE of B'ham, and I thought my bypass was south of the city. Now I gotta find a map... OK, I checked - I'm talking about I-459.
