Colorado Cruisers

Hi everyone :sunny: Hope all the fathers had a great Father's Day. We came back from a weekend of running the rapids and camping down near Buena Vista, Colorado. Our teens loved the white water rafting, we had a full day of catagory 4's and below. The water levels are pretty high, so we weren't able to do the catagory 5 rapids. We stayed at Mt. Princeton Campgrounds near the hot springs. It was a great weekend but a bit short. We are recouperating and now the kids are attending a fencing summer camp located in Greenwood Village. Our teens said it was great -- fortunantely it is air conditioned and appears that all the class just love the sword playing. I appreciate that they are also learning a new sport and exercising. Keep cool, we will enjoy our pool more this summer... Summer starts tomorrow!!! :cheer2:

Sandy - We stayed in the ones that were closes to the parking lot/boat ramp even though when we booked them, it looked like the farthest one. I really loved the ones by the spillway. We're hoping to go up again in Aug for the weekend.

You can always take MY kids if you want to ;)

I love staying in Buena Vista! Our quilt group goes for a weekend every August and we stay at Liars' Lodge, a beautiful B&B which is right on the river. We always see the rafters floating by...looks like fun!

Lisa - Sandy said she was taking our kids to Pirates Cove!!!

FinVicMom - Sounds like you had a great weekend. I am supose to go white water rafting in August at Glenwood Springs. I have never been before but I am so excited to go!!! We are going for my best friend's birthday.

Teresa - I haven't stayed at Shadow Mountain that I remember but I do remember it from a day trip we took up there, it is so beautiful up there. Glad you had fun.

Mom - we will just have to wait to go to Pirates Cove when the babies get older!!! But it does look like you have some volunteers to take their kids there!!!! Me, I will be staying out of the sun for awhile!!!!

DCLcruiser - how have you been? You must be pretty busy, haven't seen you pop in in awhile. Any good gossip?

Somehow I think you guys took my statement out of context. I am now an empty nester, old hag, grandma. You shouldn't trust your kids with the likes of me!! :rotfl2:

Heidi, you HAVE been to Shadow Mtn. You just don't remember it. I have the most adorable pics of you guys there. We stopped going when it got so crowded and we bought into Colorado Heights (Pines) at the time.

FinVicMom, you weekend sounded wonderful. Just not sure if I could take class 4 rapids. That is too close to class 5 for me. Call me a wimp! My hubby loved to kayak but that is one thing I couldn't do.

Teresa, we used to canoe out to the islands at Shadow Mtn. with our dog. It was so peaceful and he would just sit and look at the scenery. Even dogs love Shadow Mtn.

pirate: I should bring our kids to check out Pirate's Cove. My son was suppose to go last year when school started in August but they had to cancel since it rained on them that day... :guilty: :umbrella: I pass by the place whenever we bring our son to his bassoon lessons. Anyhow-- it sounds as if everyone had a great weekend :groom: I have a question to the Colorado Cruisers regarding airfare costs from Denver to Orlando... :earseek:

1) What is a decent price to pay during October? I have three other families who haven't booked airfare. I secured our own airfare for $214 rt with American Airlines. We are arriving a day earlier (Friday) so that we don't have any mishaps with any connections. :earsgirl: :bitelip:

2) Which airline have you flown on?? :teeth:

3) Should the three families just wait it out until a month or 3 weeks prior to the departure date of October 14? Any suggestions/advise would be greatly appreciated. :flower: :sunny: :cheer2:

Thanks!! Evie ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

Sandy - I totally trust you to watch my kids ;) I definitely would love to bring a boat next time we go up there.

Hi Evie - I don't know about October, but we just got back from Orlando a few weeks ago (okay, more like 6 weeks) from our Disney Cruise :cloud9: We flew directly through TED and I believe our fare was about $214 (plus tax) each. I think $214 is pretty darn good. Is that a direct flight?

We're heading to Pirates Cove tomorrow... hope the weather is nice :sunny:

We always fly Frontier. We like the non stop flight as well as Direct Tv in every seat. I think that price is pretty average. We have flown as cheap as 186.00 on Frontier but that was a couple of years ago.

Gee Teresa, I am so sorry that I have plans tomorrow otherwise I would meet up with you at Pirates Cove to babysit. Have fun!! Watch out for sunburns!

Teresa..... definately don't forget the sunscreen! We went on Friday and DD put the sunscreen on my back for me. I am still really red :guilty: . I know that she rubbed everywhere, but she must not have had much on her hands. We only stayed 2 1/2 hours or so and I didn't even realize that I was getting sunburned. It seems like I just kept cooking after I got home. My shoulder almost had blisters, but not quite.

Evie... I think that 214 sounds pretty good. I think when we go in December I want to do Frontier. I really want a direct flight this time and the tv in the seat backs sounds pretty cool.

Everyone keep cool and have a great week!

Gee Sandy  , you said you would babysit ;)

Cristi - Oh I'll have sunscreen on. I'm meeting some friends, so I'll have one of them do my back. My shoulders and face seem to be the targets of the sun. I'll make sure to bring a hat too :teeth:

I prefer Frontier myself, but DH booked the tickets with TED since they were the cheapest at the time.

In my experience, Florida is almost always cheap to fly to (consistently). I expect to pay between $180.00 and $240. and don't like it when it is $240. This is for when I have looked for whereever I am going in Florida. I have only flown into Orlando twice before and I have tickets for this Sept. I paid around $240. with Frontier but it has since gone down (and maybe back up again?? I stopped watching). I would just set some fare watchers and keep an eye out. If you don't mind a layover you can get it cheap. I think $214. sounds good. You should be happy with it.

I like frontier the best, I would not book ticket to Orlando if it is above $225 because it will get cheaper. With taxes The most I have paid was $225, the least was $159. Check out airfare on Wednesdays, they always get cheaper on Wednesday.

Thanks for all your comments. I've been tracking on Orbitz and with Travelocity and so far for the Oct dates of 10-14 back on 10-22 reflect prices between $324 through $837. The non-stops with Frontier and United are pricing between $324 & $457. Since we need to take a flight after 12 noon on the 22nd, Frontier is pricing at $385.

I'll suggest to the other 3 families to track and grab the airfare once the tickets go down under $250.00 :bitelip: Our family bought the $214 tickets back in April and since then the prices have moved up. :guilty: We don't mind the one stop since we will be arriving the day before. We have our most frequent flier points with AA and are trying to save up for a trip to Maui next year

If any of you receive any updates of cheaper airfares to Orlando, please post or feel free to email me direct :wave2: Thanks!!! Evie

I just got an email from Frontier saying they are having a 3 day sale. Have you checked today on Airfare?

I've been watching air fares for my trip in October.
About 3 weeks ago, United had the cheapest nonstops at @$221 (tax included) for all summer...stopped just short of October which was $260.

So I decided to wait.

Then Frontier had a RT fare of $250 Den-MCO or $260 into MCO and out of Tampa.

While I was busy thinking, the prices went up to over $300 on each of them.
Drats.

So today, I saw the 3 day sale from 5 cities (not including MCO) but thought I 'd give it a try and I just booked Den -MCO for October for $221 plus taxes (@$250).

If you need dirt cheap, then wait for a NorthWest sale. Usually Denver to Tampa can be had for $137. But there is a stop in either Detroit or Minneapolis...and NW has the worst tendency to delays and plane cancellations and stuff,so I don't fly them anymore if I can helpit!

Hope this helps! I think if you wait, the October fares will drop some. But since i am solo...the drop wouldn't be significant enough for me to risk it.

Good Luck!

Interesting. I booked our airfare on Frontier (nonstop) for travel to WDW over Thanksgiving weekend at the 329 days out mark, and got a fare of $246.90 with taxes. I think this is actually the cheapest I have managed to get so far. I haven't seen it do anything but go up from there for those particular dates. I just checked and it's at $448.90  :scared: :crazy2: I am not willing to risk missing a connection to get a really low fare, I would rather pay a little more and fly straight through. 'Course paying a little less and flying straight through would be really nice too! After this trip we will have accumulated enough miles for free tickets :cheer2:

Rain? What rain? Actually, we haven't seen much here at Quebec & 470. I wish it would down pour just a little.

Watch those fare's carefully. They said United and Frontier were suppose to go up. I think it's because of gas prices.
