We're getting close to dry wall in the addition to our house - my scraproom included. So now I need to decide on paint color for the walls. Oy, I've been agonizing over this and can't make up my mind. So if this were your new scrapbooking room, what color would you paint it?

Here are some pics of the current state of "my" room. ;)

This is the view looking into the room through what will be French doors. We're probably going to put plantation shutters (white) on the windows. The center section of the ceiling is 9 feet high, the walls are about 3 1/5 feet before sloping upwards.

There's a dormer window - which I will probably make into a craft area for my toddler - to the right, also with plantation shutters (probably). The floor is going to be pergo and I'm seriously considering Skandia shelving (from Container Store) which is a light wood

The dormer window faces west, the other windows face south so I'll get lots of natural light during the day.

This was taken from the dormer window looking at the long wall across.

And this is probably going to be the view from my desk - looking through the French doors into the other room. (DH has plans to put a flat screen tv on the far wall on the right side.)

I'd paint it a neutral white. Here's why: Any other colour you paint it will affect your own perception of colour when you're working on your projects. Seems extreme but it's really true. Paint on the walls will cast colour onto your pages and other projects. I never thought about this much until I started studying Japanese Embroidery. Even white clothing (down to white arm coverings) is encouraged so as not to affect how you see the colours you're working with.

Now, if you really could care less about that, a soft pale yellow would be pretty.

Congrats on the addition! So exciting. We recently added on to our house as well. Although the kids got new bedrooms, I got the old nursery as my "office". :) I debated the color choice for weeks. I selected a light brown color for the walls. My ceiling is painted like a sky light blue and white - I did when I was 8 months pregnant and it meant a lot to me. So we made the builders save it! I have not noticed any reflection from the walls and my room is pretty sunny all day. My biggest problem is the amount of stuff I have - but that has nothing to do with the color of the walls. :lmao:

Good luck! I can't wait to see your finished room! Maybe I'll get some inspiration to finish my room!

No suggestions, but congrats on the addition, it's going to be beautiful! :goodvibes

Wow, I never even thought about reflection off of clothing, except may red.

I usually go with white, but all the walls in the house - except those wallpapered - are white, or at least were before I had the nursery painted in a Noah's Ark theme. I know that if I go with a yellow it will be very, very pale. But then I've also thought of blue or green. (I've got all the Disney paint chip colors that I've been going through lately.)

We have a lighting guy that I've talked with extensively over the past few years and he knows what kind of lighting I want in the room. He even switched out the lightbulbs in the room I'm using right now for scrapping that make it appear more like outside light. We've discussed bulbs with different tint to them, too. Plus I have one of those desk lamps that gives off natural light.

my ideal would be Tinkerbell themed. I love lime green, so a light lime green and light lavender would be my vote :goodvibes

So, I am a color queen. I love color. Almost every white wall in my house has been painted over. (I promise it all matches). My scrapbooking room is a two tone. The top is a wild orchid (deep purple color) and the bottom is a white lily (has a very slight hint of green). Over top of the white lily I did a pearlized effect. It was easy and it makes me smile every time I enter the room. I love it and everyone compliments it when they visit. I accented it with pinks and silvers and I have white book shelves from IKEA. It's DH, DS5 & DS2 so I'm the only Princess in the house and I wanted it to be a very girly room.

I have lots of friends and family that consult with me when they are ready to paint. My best suggestion is to choose a color that will make you happy. You are going to be spending the most time in there and if you like 2 colors use them both. The more creative you are the more inspiring the room will be.

Enjoy your beautiful new space.

I'm with DisneyMama, pick something that makes you happy.

It took me a while but I worked up the nerve this winter to follow through on my own likes. I'm now the proud owner of a plum purple crafting room, complete with splashes of gold extra fine glitter. It's the upstrairs of a cape so there's lots of white, sloped ceiling and tons of wood to balance out the dark color. It's very different from anywhere else in my house but it always makes me smile when I walk into my space.

So yes, go with what you like. You can always get one of the true color lights to have at your work space if you're concerned about seeing the colors more accurately.

My craft room is a soft baby blue w/ a cream berber carpet. Look in the magazines at rooms that you find yourself really liking. Look around you at other homes for the colors that jump out at you. Go pick up paint samples just based on liking the color. Look at a piece of scrapbook paper that you LOVE! The main thing in my opinion is that you feel good with the color you choose. I agree w/ DisneyMama - be creative and have fun in the room.

The only walls in my house that are white - oh wait, no white walls in my house but they're tasteful and I get compliments all the time on the color choices. I'm not happy right now with my kitchen wall color but haven't decided what I want yet so I'm living with it!

We built our home 2 years ago so everything was builder white. The first thing we painted was the kitchen. After about a month I hated it so about a year ago I repainted it. Now it makes me happy. My theory is it's only paint if I hate it I'll repaint it. The only walls left white in my home are the work in progress rooms. Getting ready to start a new paint job soon.

We leave for disney in 10 days. I wonder how many rooms I can paint before we go. I'm planning on at least one. Am I crazy or what?

You're not crazy! I'm with you - repainting's fairly cheap and easy and it makes me really happy too! There's a gallon of paint sitting in my extra bathroom that I'll be getting to really soon - changing from a too bright yellow to a bluish-green spa type color.

Like I mentioned before, all the painted walls in our house are white except those in DS's room. I had a friend paint it for us and I just love it. I keep telling DS (who isn't even 20 mths old) if he doesn't like his room he can move downstairs with his daddy and I'll sleep in his room. ;)

We used Disney colors in his room - Christopher Robin's Swing (green)

and Eeyore (blue)

for the grass and sky. The other colors in the room are also Disney or mixes of Disney colors, except the dragons which we had color matched. This room really makes me happy, but I'm not sure I want to use these exact colors for my scrapping room.
