hi guys,
my mom is having a colonoscopy done on friday and she has been given a list of food to eat and not eat. the list says that yellow jello is ok, do you think orange jello counts as yellow? i know its a silly question...

I would like to think so...............my DH just had one yesterday & he actually ate a couple of things not listed & all was fine.........

I'd go for it, if I were her........but then with the gunky stuff you have to drink, she may be like my DH & not be able to eat anything.:(

I would stick with the yellow.

I think it has something to do with the coloring in the jello that can possibly look like blood in the test.

I have had a few colonoscopies and I would stick with the pre-test instructions she was given. If something doesn't go right, then the test may have to be repeated.

Do you know what prep she is taking?

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I am a GI/Endoscopy nurse so I can tell you from experience that anything orange is okay. It is anything red that you must avoid.
Once you start the colon prep if you have anything red it comes through looking like blood. And the first time you see that you will think you are bleeding to death!! I have answered many frantic calls where pts have forgotten and ate something red, then prepped and thought they were hemorrhaging!! Tell your mom good luck with the prep!! And get plenty of soft toliet paper!!

Is she doing a single day prep or more than that?

I had an awful time with the prep last time and could not keep it down. It didn't work correctly and my Dr. was "upset". I will have to take a pill next time.

Do you think she is going to be able to tolerate the prep?

Again, good luck to her on Friday. Colonoscopy is a very important test.

I have taken both the liquid and the pill prep. I thought the pill was much better in the fact that I could at least finish the whole dose. Mind you - it's not just a pill it's about 20 and they are huge!

(realizing that this doesn't help the OP) - good luck with the prep and procedure.

My mom is also having this procedure done on Friday.

Thursday night I will have to stay with her to make sure she takes the prep.

Hope everything works out ok.

I was told not to eat anything red. The prep is far worse then the test. I would also follow the instructions given as they will cancel the test when you get there if they think there is going to be a problem.

thanks everyone! my mom has this test done every year (or maybe every 2?) so she is used to the prep and the liquid goo.

thanks again!

What is the "pill"? Though i'm a few years away from having this procedure, I'm one who can not keep weird stuff down and tolerate pills 1000 times better. I didn't know the prep came in a pill form.

When I had mine I ate only orange jello--the only other kind I like is strawberry and that was out. Its was fine--no problems with the orange. BTW I had to stay on liquids for 3 days before :(

The pill is fairly new.

My Dr. recommended it for my next colonoscopy-have to go every 2 or 3 yrs because my brother died of colon cancer.

She said she couldn't keep the Fleets down, either.

I didn't have a problem with the NuLitely-I think this name is correct.

She said you have to drink a LOT of water with the pills. WHO CARES. I'll drink as much water as it takes.

I also asked her about virtual colonoscopy and she said it is far from perfect.
