Hey everyone. My DGF and I have been thinking of taking a week get away for the 14th-17th of June (can be any 4 days in the later half of the month) We have been crunching numbers for the past week and It all seems to expensive (we plan on going with her sister and boyfriend) I posted my concerns on the Budget Bored when a kind person suggested that I check out here and learn about renting points. The only problem is I am very confused in how it works ( I KNOW half of you are SOOOO mad right now that I am asking... it is probably like when people say to me "we are going to Disney world today then EPCOT Tomorrow")but can someone please explain to me what renting means, because I feel like it is a good deal (if it is what iI am thinking) Ok guys thanks alot.

THANKS!

What you need to do is use the points calculator to find out how many points you need. You put in your dates, what size room, and where you want to stay. Then you post here to rent points. The average is $10-$11 dollars a point. Someone with the points to rent will contact you and you can set it up.

Read the FAQS at the top of the board. That should give you some information about the process. In a nutshell, you are asking an owner to make a reservation for you. They control the reservation until you check in. Then it is officially yours. You probably have to pay 100% up front since it is getting close to 30 days out. You may have to pay cash unless they have a Paypal account. At 30 days out, the member cannot reschedule or cancel the reservation without losing full control of their points.

Find someone with a lot of posts. Ask them if they have rented out their points before. Find someone and go with that, don't waste time "shopping" around for the best deal.

This is an agreement between you and the owner. Disney is not involved in any way. Trust is required on both sides.

Keep in mind that DVC is not a hotel. It's a timeshare that people own, and most plan their vacations well in advance, a year or better.

I assume you mean THIS June? Next Month? If so you definitely won't be able to be picky on what you want. The more popular spots like a standard view studio at BWV are probably all gone by this late date. Same with BCV and VWL as they are small resorts. Your best chance will probably be OKW and perhaps SSR, due to their size and the fact that they have lots more rooms, there may still be some availability. But you'd better act fast.

Good Luck.

If renting points doesn't work, think about someone in your party getting an annual pass and check out the discount boards for up to 40& off Disney resort hotels, moderates for $99/night; value for $74/night..........only one person in your party needs a pass and there are other restaurant and shopping discounts, water parks, etc., discounts too. :earsboy:

Wish I could help you but I'm out of points this year. Definitely check the rent/trade board. It is a bit late to be picky but you never know what will happen. Sometimes people have to cancel a trip at the last minute. Renting points Sunday through Thursday nights (avoiding Friday and Saturday nights) will also save you money because weekend points are much more expensive. Also, don't worry about asking questions here. DVC owners are very knowledgeable and helpful. I have learned a lot here since I purchased in 2002. Annmarie
