My son will be in college next year. He is planning on getting an apartment off campus with another boy. I know that when our daughter went out on her own after college, she had to get her car insurance on her own which made it go up some. Does anyone know if my son's will be affected the same way since he will technically be out on his own- even though we will be paying for it? Or, will they let us keep him on our policy as long as he is in college? Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks

all i know is my sister is in college and the car is on my parents' insurance, so it's possible.

I lived away from home during college and stayed on my parents car insurance. The ins. company seemed to be more concerned that the car title have one of my parents names on it rather than if I was actually living at home.

Our daughter is in college, not living in the dorms, and her car is still on our policy.

As long as he's in the same state as you, you'll be fine. If he moves out of state, I think you'll have to have a different policy. I did when I lived in Texas and my parents lived in South Carolina.

His rates may change still based on his new address. Each neighborhood has its own rate, since many claims are due to theft.

it must vary by company b/c my sister is in a different state than my parents.
