Why would you not consider an associates degree worthy? Many well paying, much needed careers (not just a "job Qualification") are associates degree professions. RNs for instance-----Many are graduates of an associate degree----It most definately does not make them "LESS" of a nurse.

I might if this were some sort of end degree technical program that resulted in a job qualification. Or maybe if there were extenuating circumstances like this was a major achievement for this person's qualifications.

But if someone just went to community college for 2 years before transferring to a 4 year school, I probably wouldn't be giving a graduation present. I don't give a present to someone who has just finished sophomore year of a 4 year college.

End degree technical program - like nursing, or there are many others like in electronics or mechanics. That's an accomplishment.

I have a friend who's daughter has developmental problems. She has been taking 1 course a year for the past 6-7 years. If she ever gets an associates degree it will be a major achievement for her and should be celebrated.

Maybe it's because I am from California where it is very common to attend community college for two years (good schools by the way) and then transfer to one of the UC four year campuses. Aside from saving money they haven't really accomplished any more than the student who completed freshman and sophomore year at UC.

I do think the OP should give something to a future DIL just because of the family relationship.
