My daughter will be graduating with her Masters in Special Education in a few weeks. I did a huge grad party for both high school and when she earned her BA. She mentioned this graduation seems to be less special because we haven't really planned anything to celebrate it and I feel bad. I don't want to do another party. She graduates on a Friday morning and we will do a nice lunch after the ceremony. I bought her a Jane Seymour Open Hearts necklace when she graduated with her BA. I am out of celebration and gift ideas. I really feel bad and cannot figure out how to make this day more special for her, etc. and I haven't a clue what to give her other than money which seems so impersonal. Does anyone have any ideas? It is a tremendous achievement and it should be celebrated.

It really is! How about an overnight trip, just the two of you, to a place special to her?

I don't go over the top like you do so of course now that you are taking it down a notch it feels less celebratory for you guys.

I am here to tell you that you will still feel elated and proud of your dd even if you don't plan a huge party or give lavish gifts.:thumbsup2

How about a nice watch that is engraved to mark her special day?

Congrats to your dd and you!!!!:yay:

Get her another necklace and put it on a Disney Plush Graduate Doll! I saw some on sale in the Disney Store last week.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I had friends who struggled with new apartment and expenses after graduation. My husband also will generally get a new grad or two every year as new hires. They usually are moving across the country to relocate for their new job.

What these young adults NEED are first months rent, deposits, a u-haul. Along with things for their new apartment.

One friend had to take out cash advances from her credit cards to pay deposits. Took her awhile to pay them back.

Make sure they have access to credit. It's hard when they ask DH how to pay for transporting their things. Meaning they don't have the cash/credit to pay for a u-haul. Generally speaking the young new-hires are responsible for getting themselves to their first jobsite and will get a stipend or re-imbursed after their first week or so on the job. Later moves will be done by moving companies.

If you feel the need to get her "something"...how about a nice watch? No one wears them anymore! They all just look at their phones.

I'm in a grad program and several classmates who are graduating got iPads as gifts. Two are going on a European vacation for three weeks. I know those are pretty broad extremes, but that comes with the territory. I got a new laptop as my gift for my BA and my husband and I are talking a week's vacation out west when I finish this Master's next May.

Malibu brings up a very good point if your DD is moving.
