College Football 2023-Year of The Dawgs?

Let's throw this out there... *IF* FSU loses to Georgia, will those saying they should be in the CFB say...
A) Maybe we're not as good as the top of the SEC?
B) If we would have had our starting QB, the game would have been different!
C) Our team didn't really play because there was no meaning in the game. If it was CFP, they would have played better.

D) Bowl games (outside of the CFP) are meaningless and often not played in by any players with NFL Draft aspirations.

Desmond Howard calling out Paul Finebaum over Paul's criticism of Michigan.

It will be interesting to see how much the Cheating accusations against Michigan become part of the Rose Bowl storyline.

During an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show" this week, Howard was asked if he is prepared to deal with Finebaum saying Michigan's national title should come with an asterisk if the Wolverines win it all.

"Paul Finebaum is a caricature of a caricature of Paul Finebaum," Howard responded. "Like, that’s what he is right now. You can’t take anything he says seriously. You just can’t. It’s like — they march him out there, they pull the string in his back, and he just starts spewing negative things about Michigan.

"When a person does that repeatedly and you just know his shtick, you can’t take him seriously. You take him for what he is. And that’s how I look at Paul Finebaum."

Ron DeSantis is setting aside one million dollars for any possible litigation!

Do you think it will go that far?

DeSantis announced Tuesday that his 2024-25 budget includes $1 million for “any litigation expenses that may come as a result of this really, really poor decision by the CFP to exclude an undefeated team” that won a major conference title.

The CFP committee followed the stated rules. No one has denied that.

The ACC long ago agreed to support those CFP rules.

The FSU Athletic Department long ago agreed to support the ACC (transitive property here).

Why do FL politicos want to waste taxpayer money to embarrass FL in-state schools?

Sound like politicians grandstanding (without a leg to stand on). Which is not new. :sad2: Sadly.

Is this the same Desmond Howard who picked Texas A&M to win the nattie in 2022?

And the same Desmond Howard who claimed Texas A&M would be a "dark horse" for the CFP in 2023?

The rule here should be "once bitten, twice shy".

But some of these "analysts" are one trick ponies. Why continue to listen to their dribble?

I'm from Alabama and I LITERALLY grew up with Finebaum. First he wrote for a local newspaper. When he started his AM radio show in Birmingham about 1990, I listened. When he moved to a stronger AM station in Birmingham, I was there. My fandom was such that in 1995 I went into the studio for one day's broadcast and sat quietly as he did his show (Pat Smith was a kind producer who spent time with me and Bob Lochamy, Paul's co-host, also took time to engage in conversation).

Paul has a role as a troll and he knows how to use his callers and his topics to drive a narrative that brings out the worst in people like Desmond. He's nice in-person, off-camera but when he's "working" he is wrapped up in the on-camera persona.

So I hope Desmond, David Pollack, and others like them keep talking to Paul. They've made Paul a rich man.

I wish I was so smart as him (a 10RC guy no less).

Bama Ed

PS - and yeah, we all know Harbaugh is a cheater. Claiming to not know what was going on in his program is no excuse. He is PAID to know what is going on in his program at all times. Ask Pat Fitzgerald.

PPS - Hey - trivia question. What is the average ranking (Yards Per Game) of Michigan's opponents in 2023 games (NCAA statistics are what I looked at)? What better-than-awful offenses did they play? Ohio - okay. But who else? Out of 133 FBS teams, how many were worse than 99? :earseek:

I don’t think it’s going anywhere, but there does seem to be SOME standing for legal action. The CFP’s decision cost FSU, a state institution, a lot of money. (It also cost the other ACC schools money.) The final CFP rankings are apparently somewhat inconsistent with the previous week’s rankings??? Again, it’s not going anywhere, but a governor should fight for his or her state. The ACC doesn’t seem to be fighting for FSU or even themselves. It’s just a budget exercise anyway, not actual taxpayer money spent.

How true is this! He is a jerk and will not watch or listen to a word he says

E) And they should all just be canceled at this point b/c no one cares about any of the bowls but the top ones.
I think many people care about the bowl games that their favorite teams are playing in. Even if those are not the biggest games. In addition, I think that they can be great experiences for the players who are not headed for the NFL. We have had neighbors whose sons played Division I football and got to go to bowl games. They all described what an amazing experience they had, and the places that they got to see. This was particularly true for a neighbor's son, who played for UCF, and they went to the Hawaii bowl. The boys got to hike through the rainforest, tour Pearl Harbor, snorkel with sea turtles, and attend a traditional luau, in addition to practicing and playing football.

Sure. FSU and the ACC schools will lose money because they supported the rules that they agreed to abide by. That's the way life is some times. Why should they expect a special exemption?

One mistake the CFP committee made is that they didn't drop FSU in the rankings ("due to player injuries") when their starting QB was lost for the year. They held their ranking.

Then FSU played FL in the final game of the year with the back-up who got knocked out and the 3rd string QB (bless his heart) came in to finish the game.

And FSU held their ranking.

The 3rd string QB played against Louisville and won the game (barely) but FSU had only 55 yards passing and went, what, 2-for-16 on 3rd down? That was painful to watch. And the CFP committee finally dropped them to play catch-up. Objectively speaking, the committee did ultimately get it right though (better late than never).

I disagree that it's not actual taxpayer dollars being spent. That committee/legislative time should be spent to accomplish something substantive for their state rather than grandstanding which, in the end, will accomplish nothing.

Many are speculating that if Nick Saban wins his 8th NC this year,he will consider it the perfect time,at age 72,to retire and go out "on top".

I personally can't IMAGINE he would retire without experiencing at least a couple of years of the 12 Team Playoff in which Alabama is practically guaranteed to be in the field every year even with some losses.

What do you think?

I just don’t see him being ready, and sure I think he wouldn't mind a taste of it although he hasn’t been outwardly positive towards the idea anyway. I think his decision to retire will be primarily for personal reasons over professional.

ESPN College Gameday will debut from Ireland next Season for its first International appearance.

The game is Georgia Tech versus FSU!

Because of Kirk Herbstreit and other ESPN personalities pushing for Alabama,FSU fans could make this an UGLY College Gameday!

It looks like they are going to hold a grudge against ESPN indefinitely.

A few of the many responses from FSU fans:

"Is throwing eggs considered a major crime in Ireland??? Asking for a friend..."

"We don’t want them there and don’t even think about every coming to tally again"

"3 straight hours of booing"

"Thousands of FSU fans boozin it up in Dublin with Gameday being there. What could go wrong? Probably going to do it inside the stadium to prevent chaos"
