first of all i have NO idea where to post this question, but im an avid fan of the disboards, and people have helped me SO much here, so i thought i'd give this question a whirl.

I'm taking a small business management course at a community college and part of the class is that we have to make a business plan for a business we 'want to open'. I want to eventually get into event planning *for disney* but i have to pretend to open my own.

my question to you is: how much is a reasonable YEARLY payment to rent out a space.... say.... 1,000 sq feet. just a rough estimate would work GREAT! I'm having the worst luck finding information, and i've been looking forever!

I hope you guys can give me advice! ANY advice is appreciated, i think im going out of my mind!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

As long as it isn't due tomorrow--you might check the classifieds for lease space and just call someone to see what they are charging for rent. Real world estimates usually will make your presentation more sound. :)

We had a proposal in my senior year for television mgmt---and it involved setting up a low-power television station. It was a real world gig (i.e. we did have a client who was doing this) and we had to actually call and research for actual prices for a variety of equipment and then let the guy know if we thought it was a sound plan for him or if his money was better spent elsewhere. We also had to check into real companies and media outlets in his area to get licensing information and cable access information. My team voted "no". I hated that project and wish we had a better client as his market was a word place for him to decide to get into tv.

i checked the classifieds of my local paper and there were charges of 10-18/sq foot.

I would need about... 1000 sq feet, so that's anywhere between 10,000-18,000.

but... it wasnt clear if that was a monthly fee or if that was a yearly fee.

if it was 18,000 a month. that would about..216,000 a year. that seems like a LOT of money for just space. maybe it seems liek a lot of money because im a poor college kid, and if i had like 1% of that money i'd be happy, haha... but does that seem reasonable... 216,000 a year?!?

That's per year. At least, that is what we paid in AZ. To rent a retail space, you usually have to sign a 5 yr lease. The price/sq. foot advertised is for one year. I don't know why...that's just the way the commercial renters do it. We were a little shocked the first time we rented space....we also thought it was per month. It was a big relief to learn otherwise.

If you want verification of this, contact a commercial realtor.
