Once a kid hits 18 - by Disney standards, are they considered an adult in terms of needing to pay the extra $25 per night to stay in my room? There would be 4 of us in the room, and 3 would be over age of 18 (2 parents and oldest "child"). I would assume this is the case, but wanted to check.

That is the case. 18 is 18, and you pay the extra adult charge for the third person 18 or older.

As the pp said, if there are more than 2 adults (18+) in the room, there is an additional charge (per adult, per night) for the extra adults. The charge, however, varies depending on the resort category. It's $25/nt for deluxe; $15/nt for moderates; and $10/nt for values.

This. The amount varies according to the level of resort you are staying at.

And it is not just Disney standard. This is pretty much industry standard- most hotels charge extra if there are more than 2 adults staying in the same room.

When staying in the one or two bedroom villas however the price is the same if I do 2 adults or 4+.

If I'm understanding this, you would have four people in the room. Three over the age of 18 - two parents and one offspring and then one under the age of 18. In that case you would be charged the extra fee for that one person.

I was unclear because of the three over the age of 18. You get two free and then each person over 18 gets charged. Under 18 is free.

Yep, my son's who's now a freshmen in college is 18 and I had to pay an extra $200 total to keep him in the same room with us. Oh well. :confused3

Unless something has changed VERY recently, you were over charged. To my knowledge, as of 2 months ago, the breakdown was:

Value - $10
Mod - $15
Deluxe - $25

Depends on the room category.
Suites and DVC Villas are exempt from the "extra adult charge". This also includes the value "family" suites.

You may save some money by staying at an All Star Music Family suite, or AOA family suite.........no extra charge for adults. Also the $$$ suites at the Deluxe resorts are exempt from the extra adult charges.

Not Hilton's :goodvibes

Not quite true.

I just priced Hilton Bonnet Creek for September with the following rates for a standard room.

2 adults (18+ in one room) = $179
3 adults (18+ in one room) = $189
4 adults (18+ in one room) = $199

So the Hilton Bonnet Creek is charging $10 more per adult.

Not sure what Hilton you are talking about. A PP has posted the extra adult charges at Bonnet Creek and the Hilton LBV charges $20 more per night per adult when more than two are in the room.

I'm just curious.. If you were 17 at the beginning of the stay, then the following day you turned 18, will you then get charged an extra fee for the rest of the stay?

I had a $25 charge per over 18 for POR when I booked in October 2012 for July 2013.

Not at Disney.....they have a policy about the tickets, food and resort stay.....they don't "penalize" you for growing up, so they base it on the date of arrival age.

Actually, Hilton does. So do Marriotts, Starwood properties, and Hyatts. Only exceptions would be Vacation Club/timeshare properties.

No.

I wouldn't doubt if Disney is charging $25 across the board for all levels now. $25/night extra per adult is industry standard and is what is imposed at the above mentioned hotel properties as well.

Okay so let me get this straight, you have one room wth two beds. Both of which will be used no matter what. WHY do they charge extra for an 18 year old? Honestly this is highway robbery if you ask me. Does the 18 year old use more soap and water? HOW UNFAIR! I am so glad that when my kids were younger I started staying off property in vacation villas...the charge is the chage no matter how many adults stay. What will they do next install pay toilets? And then people on the other board wonder why I think that they will start charging for Fast Pass in a few years!:scared1::worried::furious:

It's because those 18 year olds could have booked their own room, not about using more stuff. And as stated, it is not a practice that is limited to Disney so it doesn't make them greedy, just normal. Timeshares and villas are normally excluded from these charges.

Just out of curiosity--do you also think it unfair that solo people have to pay the same rate, even though they won't be using that second bed? How about couples who sleep together and need only one bed? Should those groups get a discount?

Not to mention, it is also the industry standard to charge for more than 2 adults. It isn't just a Disney thing.
