Okay so let me get this straight, you have one room wth two beds. Both of which will be used no matter what. WHY do they charge extra for an 18 year old? Honestly this is highway robbery if you ask me. Does the 18 year old use more soap and water? HOW UNFAIR! I am so glad that when my kids were younger I started staying off property in vacation villas...the charge is the chage no matter how many adults stay. What will they do next install pay toilets? And then people on the other board wonder why I think that they will start charging for Fast Pass in a few years!![]()
Actually, yes. When you look at a hotel's budget for the year, third and fourth guests are not accounted for on projected room revenues as room revenues are based on double occupancy - not including third and fourth guests.
There's been multiple threads on this debate, but aside from the fact that an 18 year old can legally book his or her own room thus taking away from their room bookings for the night, they account for the fact that all room rates are based on double occupancy. If you add a third or fourth person to the room, you are now increasing water usage, laundry, electricity, and essentially creating more wear and tear on the rooms. If hotels didn't charge, those additional fees, no matter how small they may seem per guest, would add up considering how often third and fourth guests are in rooms every night. And as stated above, it's almost any hotel you can think of - not just Disney.
And as for my source - I have my B.S. in Hotel Management, so I had to study this stuff for four years
