Here is my experience.
When I was 19, I purchased flowers for my girlfriend and had them delivered. The flower shop was going out of business but still "in business". I paid cash and the flowers were delivered. Of course about a year later I get a call from a collection agency saying that I still owed for these flowers. I explained that I had paid cash, the reciept and been marked as "paid cash" and what florist would deliver flowers without being paid first.
The collection agency said that unless I could produce the reciept I was responsible and they told me my credit would be ruined. I told them to send me proof. I never heard from them again (that was 20 years ago).
It was obviouse that all of the financial books from the florist has been sold to this bill collector and they were just trying to make money off of people.
