Collecting pennies or pins or...........

Came here to suggest Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom since no one seems to discuss it, and am happy others have brought it up. Tried it with my DD8 last time, thinking she wouldn't like it much but we'd get some cool cards for free, and ended up spending half that day, and many hours the next few days on it. We have the cards in protected sleeves at home now and can't wait to get back.

Odd question.. Do u think canadian pennies would work? I can't see a difference, but we stopped distributing the pennie and my son has a ton, sitting around. I figure if I can use those it would save me a lot of hassle.

I was wondering the same thing. It would be awesome if the Canadian pennies work! When we convert money into US funds at the bank they only carry bills, no change, so it isn't always easy to come by US pennies, or quarters for that matter!

That's the problems we've had! And I didn't go down last time with the intent to do them.. My son pointed them out and became obsessed with them. I would probably keep a few just so he has them to show his kids one day, but otherwise I'd take them and just convert how many he has I to other coins so he's not loosing money (kid has a ton!), but I don't want to go down with them if they won't work... We cashed out at one food place I believe and no one else in line, so I know I wasn't holding anyone up, but if asked the CM if she could change 2 of my 1$ bills into quarters and she looked at me like I was crazy! People normally don't like carrying change around, and normally neither do i, but it became an obsession with the DS. I I know they will take the canadian pennies I'll just stock up on American quarters

Our 8-year-old granddaughter, loved the pin trading. We ended up spending a great deal of time as she searched for CMs so she could trade pins. It's fun and cheap and it helped her with some of her shyness.

As for the pennies. One of our adult sons took this on as a project. He bought the collector's book and got as many as he could.

Here's a side note. We were told by one CM that several of the vendors have rolls of shiny pennies that you can buy.

My son loves the pressed pennies machines. We printed out a checklist so we could keep track of what we already had at home and highlight anything he really wanted to collect.

Last trip, he collected transportation cards. They're totally free. Just ask the busdriver/monorail employees/boat captains and if they have them, they'll give the kids a card or two. We had a really nice boat captain who gave us an entire set of the boats one evening. He had them pre-bagged into ziploc baggies. It was a really nice surprise.

In addition to Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, my DS loves the Pirate Adventure, Treasures of the Seven Seas interactive experience in MK Adventureland. It may not qualify as a "goal" for each day as you probably won't spend each day in MK, but the adventure has 5 different maps you can experience and collect. We did all 5 adventures in one night on a trip in August and now he has a nice set of souvenir maps to remember our experience! It also doesn't cost anything extra to do.

We did both the pennies and the pins. The pins were a real hit with our 8-year-old GD. She also did a Phineas and Ferb crime solving activity in the Norway section of Epcot.

Since we had prepurchased Memory Maker, our mission this trip was to collect as many magic shots as possible. My 9-year-old shared my mission and was into seeing how many different ones we could get. I think we ended up with a dozen.

I also recommend the Sorcerer cards.

I know this is an old thread, but I am so excited for my kids to collect pressed pennies on our next trip!! I plan on buying them each a book to collect them in. Yay!

My daughter is so excited about the pressed pennies too! Her aunt got her a book and a few pressed pennies on our last trip 3 years ago. Guess I need to get a roll of pennies this week.... :)

The mini m&m container was such an awesome tip I read somewhere. It is neat to see someone else use it too. We are a big fan of the pennies. It is so neat to try to find the machines. We might try both next trip.

We did the M&M containers, too. My boys (Almost 7 and 5 on our last trip) always want to do pressed pennies everywhere they go, so they were in heaven that we just let them have at it whenever we saw one, and my parents bought them the Disney books to put them in.

We also did pin trading. They had one lanyard with about 7 pins that I bought on ebay (actually quality ones, though, just cheap ones since I knew they would probably be traded) and we did it casually.

I say do both!

Does anyone know how much the pressed coin books are inside the park and where exactly they might be found? Trying to determine if it is cheaper/better to buy them ahead of time on Amazon.

We did pin trading on our last trip. I purchased a lot of pins from ebay before we left and some inexpensive lanyards from walmart. It was much more cost effective that way. My kids spotted the penny machines on our last visit and are asking to do that this trip.

For the pins, we are looking at doing this for our kids, first trip and all. Is there something we should be looking for to know if they are the right pins if we buy on ebay or amazon?

We've done the pennies too. We stack them in the m&m tube and put the pressed pennies in a mentos gum container- on the creative DISings area you can get personalized labels made for each child. We did find the penny books in the shops in world showcase for 9.99 usually where there is a penny machine near a store they have the books.
