collecting? a pointless question

So what do you collect and why? Its a pointless question but a fun one. Also How many of your item to you have in your collection?
I collect monkeys and police/fire/ems patches. I have 40 patches (and some assorted police and fire collectables). Ill count my monkeys later.

Snowmen. I dont know how many I have but its a lot. It started off with a few snow buddie pieces then exploded when all of my family and friends thought I'd like every other snowman thing out there.. Dh just found some at a yardsale so I now have 6 more to add to my collection..

I collect postcards. I started as a kid. I don't know how many I have.

DH would tell you I collect expensive electronic gadgets...

But, there are so many I don't have, that can't possibly be true.

We do collect magnets on vacation. Every spot we visit, we get a new magnet for our fridge. We have probably around 100.

I collect dollhouses too. I have two curently but there more for mokey loving, My little monkeys live there (its a saftey thing).
I guess I also collect little glass christmas houses. I only have 20 of those though.
Old cameras but those are for decortin my studio, I have around 3 of them.

OTOH, I'm old enough to have gotten tired of MOVING my collections. So the only one remaining after my move to FL is cartons of Dept. 56 Christmas villages...

I used to collect airplanes and mermaids, but it got to the point where people kept giving me pieces, and my house was filling up. I had to put the kibosh on those.

Currently, I collect Pez dispensers...I have something over a hundred...I have a very nice display case for them all, but it's about to be overrun...sigh...it all started out so innocently.

DH and I also collect Christmas tree ornaments from wherever we travel. In the past I collected silver charms, glass animals and dolls from wherever I traveled. Travel is a big theme in my life.

I collect Disney Pins......DH and I have just over 800......expensive hobby LOL. We mostly collect Stitch, Villains, Beauty & The Beast and Aladdin

I collect Christmas tree ornaments from different places I vacation. I also collect nut crackers. I don't have a lot, but the ones I have I love.

Gold filagree Christmas ornaments from vacations spots.

I used to collect more things when I was younger, but learned you just end up spending lots of money and have lots of things around you have to dust or that clutter up your house.

Now, the collection of ornaments comes out once a year, has a place, looks great, and goes back away. It means more to us because we get to visit it once a year instead of dusting it every week.

used to collect turtles.....had about 400....gave them away, about 50 left
Disney tees.....(not on purpose )...about 35 (just me, dh about 20)
Merryweather items......not enough, maybe 25
Christmas ornaments....enough for about 10 trees!!
another book collector here too...although we got rid of a lot in anticapation of moving

Eeyore mugs! I love Eeyore (obviously). I got a mug because it was cute, and then got more until it just sort of grew into a collection. When I worked there I was alwyas looking for new mugs. When I moved back to Missouri I would look at mugs anytime we were at the Galleria in St. Louis (we went just for the Disney store.) Sadly, the only Disney Stores in the state are now in Branson which is just way too far. I did learn that there is a Disney Store in Kansas close to where I am now! That is definitely on my list, maybe this week.

ETA: Books too! I am a total bibliophile. When I moved, books made up at least half of my stuff! You can find them in some very odd locations in my house!

Vultures! I have 3 stuffed ones (one is a Disney one from The Jungle Book) and one small plastic one. I also have some African stamps with vultures on them. They're economical to collect because they're hard to find. My one rule is they must be presented in a pleasing way--no nasty Halloween representations of these noble birds are allowed in my house.

thats like me, every monkey must have a meaning. my two newest were painted by sisters, very odd looking but they make me smile. Im also hoping to get a fuzz that was monkey for my upcomming b-day.

Answer one question - have you rid yourself of a book and then bought it again later??? Only THEN are you a true bibliophile (or idiot in my case!)

Another person here that collects books. I had way too many so I got rid of some then I ended up buying more!


I also collect Peanuts memorbilla (the cartoon not the Planters Peanut) it's mostly anything with Snoopy.


I used to collect tea sets and snow globes and have been thinking about getting into it again.

Im down to 3 bookcases.... But I have a defense, there all criminal justice themed. Doesnt that make it ok? LOL. I get so much grief for my collectins.
